I live in a blue-collar suburban neighborhood. Many residents are 50+. I'd guess you'd call them JFK democrats. No hippies here, and a gun club within 10 miles of my house. Anyway, I took a long drive yesterday (Memorial Day), and only about one house in 20 had an American flag out front. I just don't understand it.
Mine was and still is on my front porch.............
1 in 20 is a better ratio than what I saw in my neighborhood.
Sad.
Fundamental transformation.
sad to say, liberals don’t understand the meaning of our national holidays. they see it as only the kickoff to summer, with no deeper meaning than that. They also associate the flag with alleged evil people such as tea party members, so good liberals wouldn’t want anyone to think they somehow sympathize with flag wavers.
You are living in a conquered nation.
Unfortunately, the US flag is associated with the US government. Some of the people that didn’t fly their flag over the last few years, that used to fly their flag before, may have wanted to fly the flag upside down if they flew it at all.
I didn’t notice flags, but I did notice the normal war movies were not nearly as prevalent on cable as they normally are.
Bet there weren’t a lot of flags flying in East Germany, either, back in the day.
I have had a flag up for years, and some months ago, I took it down and never put it back up.
To be honest, I don’t really understand myself why.
Something just didn’t feel right as some point, and I am a bit ashamed to admit it. I put it back up yesterday.
Sigh.
I put up Old Glory on the holidays of my choice, but on such as Labor Day the yellow Gadsden hits the pole.
Mine was out until the rain hit. I had taken my walk early and I’d say 50% of homes had flags out yesterday.
Mine was flying yesterday. It flies only on certain days of the year now. It came down from it’s permanent position on 11/6/2012 about 2200 hrs Pacific Time.
“Where were all the flags?”
Great question, as a Navy veteran, I will not fly the American flag AS LONG AS THIS COUNTRY IS UNDER SEIGE. Hopefully the day will come when the administration is occupied by true patriots who love, this country.
Mine wasn’t fit to hang because it is tattered. Need to buy another one and take the old to the VFW.
I suspect that may have been my underlying motive, but I couldn’t bring myself to fly it upside-down. Perhaps I thought it was disrespectful (another conversation) but I probably thought it was better not to fly it.
I regret it.
The Halyard on my 35 foot pole broke and I have Unfotunately not had the time to get it repaired.
Normally I fly My flags 365 day a year depending on the severity of the weather.
Maybe it has to do with most HONEST people, not being too particularly proud of the current state of things in America. It reminds me of holidays during the Carter Administration! People didn’t put out American flags, because most people felt our better days were behind us! Malaise seems to be making a HUGE come back in the American under-toe!
I know I have mine out everyday and night. But, I added flag-colored sidewalk lights to the tops of my fence posts for this past weekend!
