The politics of faux victimization are spiraling out of control at a community college in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where several white students, their black professor and irritated administrators have one-upped each other with complaints, reprimands and now a lawsuit.
The trouble began in English professor Shannon Gibney’s Introduction to Mass Communications class at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Though the class ostensibly has little to do with race, Gibney considers herself an activist on racial issues, and frequently invokes white privilege and oppression during class time, according to her students. (She has previously taught classes on race and gender.)
Recently, several white students announced that they had had enough with Gibney’s incessant racial screed. They interrupted her during a lecture, and said, “Why do we have to talk about this in every class? Why do we have to talk about this?” according to Gibney’s account of the incident, which was recorded by the City College News.
Gibney felt put on the spot, but told the students not to take matters personally.
“We are not talking about all white people, or you white people in general,” she told them. “We are talking about whiteness as a system of oppression.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this failed to provide comfort to the white students. Next, Gibney invited them to file a racial harassment complaint with the college if they were so offended.
So they did.
Last week, the college reprimanded Gibney and accused of her creating a hostile work environment for white students.

my daughter-in-law is taking a sociology course taught by a liberal feminist who also has a reputation for being very communist and was forewarned by fellow students that it may be difficult.

This is exactly what struck me odd about the letter. I don’t really believe it. I think that is a statement from her about the contents of the letter.
She’s obviously a racist and hates white people. If she were white she would be gone. Time to send her away.
About time someone turns the tables on the double standard. I’m not a big proponent of law suits, but I don’t mind it in this case.

This is what you get when you feed the drivel of racism to a person their entire life.
I had several run ins like when I got out of the Army in 1968 and went to College. I also heard the same argument in my FReepin’ career in Boston and DC, don't work for me.

No matter what happens "the whiteness [of the]system" can be blamed.
Any article that talks about racism, and starts off with a premise like this, is worthless.
The author has made up their mind, and wants to make up yours, as well.

A better question by the students would be, “Is it really necessary for us to be subjected to your racism in this classroom? Can’t you leave your racism outside?”

Worse than that, it’s the paranoid race-war ideology passed around by black nationalists for generations, and sworn to be “the truth” as they call it. They presume that whiteness in general is a plot against black people, and all whites are in on it. A true believer like this college professor has that ideology first and foremost in her mind, every time she walks into class and looks at her students.
How long before the rev.al and jessie jackas* show up with their rent a mob group? I guess it depends on how soon the money is added to their bank accounts.

I took public speaking (engineering requirement) from a prof who "disliked engineers, and white male engineers especially" (her words, to the class, first day of attendance).
It was particularly frustrating to do "A" work (I like public speaking) and get lousy grades, while others in the class would sleep through the semester and get 'A's". I got my "C" that was required and got out. I suppose it was a good lesson in power, and in the worthlessness of some people who enjoy abusing it.
Now that I'm graduated, and doing OK, I've wanted to go back and see her. Find out if she's still a miserable #@$@$, going nowhere and accomplishing nothing, and teaching a class that no one wants to attend. :-) Success is the sweetest revenge.

I was faked into registering for a phony Black Liberation blah blah blah course “taught” by a Black Lesbian Ms. Audrey Lorde in John Jay College. The course was supposed to be an English lit course which she turned into a Black “woe is me !” session twice a week. I was one of only two Whites in the class and the other one was a self hating liberal. I was on my way to an F when she broke her leg and they got a sane substitute. Good for these kids!
You hit the nail on the head. Minnesotans are stupid. Just like all of the other predominately progg/lib states. Including N.J. where I live.
