Maya Angelou dead
How long before Øbama orders flags at half-staff, a state funeral and a national day of mourning?

The funniest was the first one. It was supposed to commemorate the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball, but "Maya Angelou" instead read a poem lamenting the anniversary of the day Jackie Robinson abandoned the Negro Leagues.

Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks,
I'll play with the white boys instead of the blacks.

ROFL.

I agree with some of what she wrote in that. I do think we should vote and make sure we’re informed before we vote. I also understand how a black person could take pride in the fact that one of them was finally elected president. Additionally, Maya Angelou was certainly old enough to have experienced discrimination herself.

I don’t agree with her political ideology, especially because I think leftism/statism only ends up enslaving blacks again. I also don’t care if she’d hate me or simply dislike me for the color of MY skin. I won’t return hate for hate. That’s a negative, evil thing.

May she rest in peace.

Obama will no doubt declare another day of service in her memory.

“There’s a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth.”

On the basis of that, you can justify anything.

That sounds pretty kin to:

“Do not follow me with your heads, follow me with your hearts.”

Poetry is a tough subject when taken seriously. I will leave it to serious scholars of poetry to decide where Angelou falls within that art. But to hate her works because many liberals praise them, or because she takes pride in her ethnic heritage . . . that ain’t me. Without apology, that ain’t me.

Someone who was called a poet. You wouldn’t have gotten that impression if you read anything by her.

That was beautifully said. Couldn't agree more.

How about hating her works because she was a hater who desired to have her boot on the throats of white people?

We are all products (or victims) of our history and environment and we all react differently to our life experiences.

Maya Angelou was born during a time when prejudice was overt and dehumanizing in much of the country. Subsequently she became successful with writing in spite of not have a college education.

She was obviously angry, maybe she had a right to be. Surely, she thought she did.

Ironically she tried to become a star as a Calypso singer in the 50's like "Calypso Louie" Farrakhan. There will be statues and memorials of her throughout liberal areas.

Probably order flags at half staff for a week.
