This is the third or fourth incident I've that read about over last few days where a motor vehicle has been the weapon of choice to deliberately kill or attempt to kill someone. Clearly, we need more motor vehicle control laws. I suggest the following:

1. Required use of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System before every sale or transfer of a motor vehicle, including private sales and transfers.

2. A two week waiting period for the purchase of motor vehicles.

3. A two vehicle limit on the number of motor vehicles that a person can purchase each year.

4. Prohibit the possession of any motor vehicle with a capacity of greater than four cyclinders or 185 hp.

5. Require applicants for a drivers license to demonstrate "good cause" for the need for a motor vehicle.

I worked with Trooper Chris on several incidents, he was one of the good guys...this area is in mourning, the fourth law enforcement officer to die in less than two months...two Line of Duty Deaths and two killed in a tragic motorcycle accident...

A 3 gallon gas tank would limit range.

Okay, so I read the article and was expecting to see where this guy was rabidly frothing at the mouth about how he finally got to kill him a cop, but none of that is there. All it says is that he was traveling across some states to see some family. After seeing more than a couple of incidents where cops lie to either make someone they have arrested look bad or to excuse beating the hell out of someone, I’m putting the premise of this story into the bullshit category until there is some credible evidence to back up the claims of the police.

We should also learn from the dramatic drop in crime caused by high capacity magazine bans and limit fuel tanks to five gallon.

"Upton continued on for several yards before he ditched his white truck and ran into the woods, where cops found him about an hour later without any clothes on, WBNG-TV reported."

"The man told cops he was driving from his home in Melrose, Fla. to visit his mother in Connecticut. Police said Upton, who has a DWI conviction from 2008 in Florida, appeared sober."

Sober? It sounds like he's nuts.

Or they could just mandate speed limiters that prevent a car from going more than 5mph. Sure it’s an inconvenience, but if it saves a single life we have to do it!

so he clipped a couple cars in another lane beforehand - sounds like he lost control - “intentionally hit” seems like a BS tag. admittedly fleeing the scene doesn’t help his case

” Clearly, we need more motor vehicle control laws.”

And, of course, no civilian should be allowed to own a black car.

A terrible tragedy. Bottom line - It's not guns, cars, knives we should ban. We must focus on the common thread in ALL of these tragedies without exception.. MENTAL ILLNESS

Yes, cars ought to be regulated, or even banned. They were only designed to kill people. After all, nobody legitimately hunts deer with a high capacity car.
