John Kerry won't testify before House Oversight Committee after all

BY JOEL GEHRKE | MAY 30, 2014 | 2:08 PM

Secretary of State John Kerry won't testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about the Benghazi terrorist attacks after all.

Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., dropped his subpoena in order to eliminate a State Department argument against Kerry appearing before the House Select Committee on Benghazi chaired by Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who sits on the regular oversight panel with Issa.

"We have been clear that we're willing to work with the committee, despite the fact that the Benghazi oversight has been consolidated under the select committee," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters last week.

"We believe the secretary’s appearance before HOGR will eliminate any need for the secretary to appear a second time before the select committee," Harf said.

Issa released Kerry from the subpoena Friday. “Seeing Secretary Kerry and others, who have worked to obstruct critical oversight of Congress’ investigations into Benghazi, attempt to use the upcoming June 12 hearing as a shield against the Select Committee tells me it’s time to reassess," he said.

"As much as we fought to learn what we could, bring critical witnesses forward, and shame the administration into disclosing more than it originally intended, I expect the select committee’s unified jurisdiction will afford it better access to the complete picture than any of its investigative predecessors," Issa said.

"In attempting to cover up documents like the September 14 e-mail from Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, President Obama, Secretary Kerry, and other officials have no one but themselves to blame for the increased scrutiny they should soon expect,” he said.

Congress needs to subpoena everyone involved and lock up those who refuse. Otherwise the democrats will continue to spit in the eye of America.

No respect. I tell you, I get no respect. Are you writing that down? Ahhh .... why not. Just damn, Darrell Issa photo: Congressman Darrell Issa 2-4-2006-129.jpg if I were Boehner, I'd have me a good cry. A good, long cry. Why won't they play nice? Is it me?

Kerry wasn’t involved. All he can offer is information told to him by others, which is just hearsay.

Good thing. Gowdy knows how to seek the truth.
Issa did not have a clue.

This is good. I posted before that Kerry would prefer the circus of Issa's committee over Gowdy's more focused prosecutors.

Perhaps he can provide a list of the Benghazi survivors and explain why they have been sequestered.

The State Department is still stonewalling. Kerry can be seen to be an accomplice to the coverup, albeit ex post facto.

But I doubt Gowdy sees Kerry as culpable in any serious way. More likely he sees Kerry as a way to get to the unreleased documents and those that have redactions.

Kerry can be put on the spot to produce, and Kerry is the kind of arrogant but cowardly twit who will fold when confronted with the fierce determination of a pit bull like Gowdy.

since O has been releasing so many IslamoNazi terrorists and illegal immigrants from gaol,
how about reserving one for Kerry?

You were certainly right. Gowdy is Kerry’s worse nightmare.

I won’t be surprised if Kerry starts whining that Issa has double-crossed him! LOL!

I think Issa did what he could with the authority that he has. Without his work about one third of everything we know now about Fast and Furious would not have been uncovered.

Kerry is involved. The State Dept. has refused to turn over a lot since he took charge of it.

Good news, Gowdy will rip Kerry a new one if Kerry tries to play games with him.
