Election 2014: Kentucky Senate

Kentucky Senate: McConnell (R) 48%, Grimes (D) 41%

Friday, May 30, 2014

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell now holds a seven-point lead over Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race following last week’s state party primaries.

McConnell earns 48% support to Grimes’ 41% in the latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Kentucky Voters. Five percent (5%) like some other candidate in the race, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

The two were tied with 42% support each in late January in Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the then-hypothetical race.

McConnell, a member of the Senate since 1985, was reelected in 2008 with 53% of the vote. He won the May 20 GOP primary with 60% support in the face of a spirited Tea Party challenge from businessman Matt Bevin. Grimes, Kentucky’s current elected secretary of State, captured her party’s Senate nomination on the same day with 76% support.

McConnell now has the backing of 76% of Kentucky Republicans and 27% of the state’s Democrats. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of Democrats and 18% of GOP voters favor Grimes. Voters not affiliated with either major political party prefer the Democrat by three points.

Republicans need a net gain of six seats to take control of the U.S. Senate, and Democrats view Grimes’ candidacy as one of their best chances to take away an existing GOP seat.....

I’d LOVE to see McConnell lose.

So what if dirty harry continues to run the senate, at least those rinos won't be in charge.

You, and your thinking are the reason we have obama as the current pResident. Happy now that rino Mitt isn't the President?

Grimes is a liberal democrat. There’s no getting away from that fact.

McConnell is a crony republican. There’s no getting away from that fact.

McConnell is pro-life and Grimes is pro-death, so I’d probably end up pulling the lever for McConnell if I lived on the other side of the river.

Well said. The only disclosure that should be required is identities and amounts by non-individuals (NGOs, unions, corporations) and foreigners, with limits on foreign sources, and no other restrictions.

There’s really no such thing as a moderate, much less a *conservative*, Democrat at the national level anymore

George Bush was the last conservative democrat.

The 12% undecideds will determine the winner.

Republicans have a good shot at winning Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, West Virginia, and maybe ?Virginia. They don’t need Mitch. And a Republican majority, especially one built on Tea party conservatives, while McConnell and Boehner lose, would send about the loudest message that we can send.

A Senate run by RINOs won’t be all that different from one run by Reid. RINOs have no fixed principles they’re willing to defend. They’re even backing away from repealing Obamacare!

Harry Reid wants to repeal the First Amendment.

And when Ditch is Majority Leader, he'll wind up going along with that and trying to destroy any Republican who doesn't.

Undecideds usually break strongly for the challenger.

Is this a poll of all voters, registered voters, or likely voters?

McConnell flat-out lied about Bevin and now he expects — demands! — that the Bevin people rally behind him, even though he would obviously not have done the same for Bevin.
