San Jose Dispensaries Offering Free Marijuana for Voters

Several Silicon Valley cannabis clubs to offer free weed to those who can prove they voted

Free marijuana is the reward in store for certain voters on Tuesday in San Jose's municipal election.

San Jose is in the process of choosing a new mayor -- and also passing new, more-restrictive rules on medical marijuana. A proposal the City Council is still considering would zone dispensaries out of business, weed supporters say -- so Tuesday's election is important. Half of the City Council's 10 seats are at stake.

Select Silicon Valley medical marijuana dispensaries will give free discounted and in some cases free marijuana to voters with medical cannabis recommendations on Tuesday.

"A lot of people don't know about the primary elections," said Dave Hodges of the Silicon Valley Cannabis Coalition. "We have some important races including the mayoral race, and we want to make sure politicians know the power of our voters."

Woman Ticketed Over Facebook Post To exchange "Weed for Votes," all voters will need to do is present their "I Voted" sticker or their ballot stub to clubs listed in an announcement to be released Monday.

The June 3 ballot doesn't contain any marijuana-specific items, but activists have created a cannabis friendly voter guide.

With so many vacant seats at San Jose City Hall, the Cannabis Coalition feels this is its chance to get the right people in, Hodges said.

The city, though, says U.S. election code forbids giving something away in exchange for voting if there is a federal race or issue on the ballot. The congressional race between Mike Honda and Ro Khanna suggests the free weed might be illegal.

School Volunteer Accused of Attacking Girl with Hammer “There may be federal issues, but there’s also federal issues providing cannabis,” Hodges said. “It’s one of those gray areas.”

Cannabis club member James McKinney said the idea is motivating him to vote.

We had one in Lansing Michigan doing that last year.

Wonder if a pharmacy could get away with giving out Oxycontin to people who register to vote?

Unless I am much mistaken (and I’m not) it is against federal law to offer any reward for voting.

I’m afraid that soon only force will be left as an option to turn society around.

That makes sense. Marijuana destroys short-term memory—the damage becomes permanent over time—people taking up the offer won’t have any incentive to vote and won’t remember to, anyway.

This could be interesting.. with the House seeking to curtail DEA efforts.. the local voters can have an impact.. stoned or otherwise..

maybe efforts could be redirected towards border intervention of drugs.. a zero sum game at best.. maybe even illegal intervention.

nyyaaaaahh..

I want to visit one of the vietnamese ‘coffee shops’ after the vote .. well, wendy’s at leats.

Yesterday in a bipartisan vote the House of Representatives passed an amendment to restrict the DEA from going after medical marijuana dispensaries in states where it was legal.

“Unless I am much mistaken (and I’m not) it is against federal law to offer any reward for voting.”

that’s absolutely correct. but I wonder if the law is payment before the vote. you could make a very good argument that if a person has already voted, this “payment” would not be about swaying someones vote.

I thought this was illegal. It was shut down here (McDonalds used to give out a free hamburger if you could show your voting stub).

It's also against Federal to posses or distribute marijuana for any reason.

against federal law to offer any reward for voting.

Depends on which party people are told to vote for. In Milwaukee they have been offered ciggs, chix dinners and lots of other things. BUT this is only allowed if it is done by Dims.

soon only force will be left as an option to turn society around.

That might be an option now, but El-Presidente is militarizing the police forces and working on using the military for protecting the ruling class from us rabble/peasants.
