Backlash over $15 wage plan (& Seattle's socialist Kshama Sawant)
My Northwest ^ | 5/30/14 | Neal McNamara

**SNIP**

"If stimulating the economy were just as easy as taking from Jim and giving to Joe, don't you think communism would've worked out? Thanks progressive lefties, I'm sure this is making businesses feel secure about moving into Seattle.

"Silliness," Shapiro concluded.

Boze wondered why Seattle didn't just force the $15 wage immediately, if 70 percent of voters like it. In fact, Thursday's committee compromise is a disaster for the $15 Now group, which is pushing a ballot initiative for November that would enact the $15 wage on Jan. 1, 2015.

"They're not interested in income equality," Boze said. "They're interested in their redistributionist policies to combat the popularity in the Seattle area of the open socialist - closeted communist - Kshama Sawant."

Maybe this is a good thing. Seattle is a small part of the country. Let’s see how their vision works. I’m sure, if it fails, they will have excuses, but it’s a pretty good laboratory, isn’t it? It will hurt some people there, but maybe it will be a wonderful demonstration for the rest of us?

By the way, if raising the minimum wage to $15 is good, why not raise it to $100?

100% correct. Cities and states are better testing grounds than the entire nation. Once enacted at a national level nothing gets repealed.

All they need to do is look in their own backyard. The city of Seatac (which surrounds Seattle-Tacoma International Airport) raised the minimum wage to $15 last year. It’s already backfiring.

your all missing a greater point. If voters can set policy, lets put all income tax on the ballot, then gas tax then city and county tax's, last but not least, lets have one big vote on how much teachers are paid and school taxes for those over the age of 60 don't have to pay any taxes...being fleeced by the government for decades, us oldsters deserve a break...

That way gas can go up to $7 a gallon and food will go up another third. That way the gas stations nd grocers make more money. See we're not against capitalism...

“By the way, if raising the minimum wage to $15 is good, why not raise it to $100?”

Really; forty acres and a “living wage” for all! I think some of the (few) smarter (still misguided) brains behind these pushes realize that the remaining jobs available to a growing number of Americans are minimum-wage type jobs, and that too much of the economy is just folding because of that (housing, child-related - especially the education industry, the automobile industry, etc.).

They are watching a whole country contract and disappear due to the economy, and are thrashing about aimlessly trying to fix it.

Stories such as this one reaffirm my belief that basic economics (to include labor theory that would be applicable to everyday life) should be taught in all high schools so that people can understand the impact of their politicians’ actions.

Do you suppose the Kshama Sawant took any action to pay for the increase in wages? Did she recommend lower taxes on businesses? Did she recommend lessening the government regulation and paperwork load on businesses? Did she recommend anything to help affected businesses prosper?

Or is she the typical low information leftist who believes that businesses make too much money and can easily afford to pay more for less? Did she pass Economics 101?

The dictatorship of the proletariat, pure democracy, no more republic.

Only until said pure democracy allows the elite to take all semblance fro the People and take it upon themselves to practice "democracy" in our behalf.
