Gun Seller Dropped By Bank Rejects Their Attempt ‘To Kiss And Make Up’

A Massachusetts gun store owner says it’s “too late” for a bank to mend a relationship that it broke.

Mark Cohen, who owns Powderhorn Outfitters, a Hyannis, Mass. gun retailer, said that his longtime bank, TD Bank, refused to extend a line of credit because of the business he is in.

Cohen explained what happened in an interview with The Daily Caller on Friday.

“This year I went to apply for a line of credit, and the bank manager came by the store,” said Cohen, adding that he’s known the bank manager for over 20 years.

“Mark, I apologize,” she said, according to Cohen, “your credit history is great, but the bank is turning you down because you sell guns.”

It would seem to me that in our country if one place is allowed to discriminate against it’s customers & another is not, that this should very well end up on the USSC docket.

I support any business to have the right to decline any business they choose for whatever reason they like. That business may rethink the results of that policy when consumers speak with their money.

“Banknorth added a sister company, TD Ameritrade, which was formed after the Ameritrade Holding Corporation acquired TD”

Well now, if TD Ameritrade started losing clients, because of this, the blowback could be serious enough for the Obama-commies to take note.

I would love to see the NRA open nationwide banking.

They would suck many customers from alot of places!!!

IMO, they would surpass the largest bank now in existance in a very short time.

How many here alone would change their bank? I definately would.

It shows their hypocracy when a government wants banks to refuse a firearms related business deposits and other business. But, that same government doesn’t refuse to accept the firearms related business’ taxes, license fees, sales taxes, etc. Why doesn’t the government refuse to accept that dirty firearms money?

Discrimination? If I had the money (BIG IF) I'd open the "2nd Amendment Bank and Trust" or maybe the "2nd Amendment Credit Union" and tell all those other losers to KMA!

And Obama's bank regulators would give you a weekly colonoscopy. Which is WHY the banks are avoiding gun businesses -- they don't want trouble from the regulators. This is just another way Obama is using government to lean on people he doesn't like, just like he sent the IRS after conservatives and conservative groups.

Gun owners aren’t a protected class, unless they are gay, black, or have a vagina.

Discrimination laws only protect the special ones. Just ask Holder.

It goes back to the protected class issue.

now that I think about it, are gays in this list? I forgot to mention above the religious. You can discriminate, but only on certain grounds.

They have to have a business risk reason for the "discrimination." If there is a risk of litigation against a certain type of store, a bank might be leery of lending money there, unless the store could show evidence of insurance or other means of payment.

Even if it was illegal for the bank to discriminate against a gun shop, say there was a statute on the subject, judges would find the statute unconstitutional and would green-light the discrimination. All branches of the government have coordinated their institutional bias against the public being allowed force of arms. The concessions they grant are tokens, meant to keep the public mollified.

Operated under a cloud of secrecy by the Department of Justice and in coordination with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Operation Choke Point forces banks to keep a closer eye on companies in industries that are deemed “high risk”, including gun and ammunition dealers, coin dealers, payday lenders, and debt consolidation service providers.

The goal of excuse for the initiative is to protect consumers against fraud, but it has had negative consequences.

Here is another case of the Democrats using the government against people they don't like.

How about some jail time for those responsible!

Not if they exist by the graces of the government. Frankly, I like the suggestion on comment #1.

This is the “chokepoint” strategy coming out of Holder’s justus department.

Banks and other institutions are being leaned on NOT to do business with gun shops and similar untouchables...tobacco companies, energy and pharmaceutical companies and the like are next.

It started 10 years ago when they asked Credit Card companies not to let their customers charge cigarettes on their credit cards to get cigarettes from other states or counties with lower taxes.

Nobody batted an eye because they hate cigarettes. It meant nothing to them but you had to know that it would go further, with government it always does.
