Hagel: U.S. didn’t negotiate with terrorists in securing Bergdahl’s release
The Washington Times ^ | June 1, 2014 | David Sherfinski

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said the U.S. did not negotiate with terrorists in the process of exchanging the transfer of five terrorism suspects for the release of the only American prisoner of war in Afghanistan.

“We didn’t negotiate with terrorists,” Mr. Hagel said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And I said and explained before, Sergeant Bergdahl is a prisoner of war. That’s a normal process in getting your prisoners back.”

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was handed over to U.S. special forces by the Taliban Saturday, with the government of Qatar serving as a go-between. Qatar is taking custody of five Afghan detainees from the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Mr. Hagel said the U.S. is dealing with terrorists and hostage taking all the time and that the release wouldn’t encourage terrorists to take American soldiers prisoner or hostage.

What Hagel is saying here is Exactly Correct.

It was NOT the U.S. doing any negotiating with terrorists. Period!

What it in fact was, however, terrorist thug wannabees in control of the US executive negotiating with the terrorists.

It is okay, as it is more of an internal terrorist matter.

“We didn’t negotiate with terrorists,” Mr. Hagel said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

All of the above statements--including Secretary Hagel's assertion that the US did not negotiate with terrorists--are about equally sensible...

They do whatever they want, flout the laws of this country

Not unexpected -- Not when the House Boner and Ol' McConnell and other GOPE leaders, who do a lot of arm-waving and screaming about Executive Branch abuses (which have become more like direct attacks on the Legislative Branch), in the end accomplish very little (if anything at all) and, as you say, no one is ultimately held accountable ... and the abuses, lies and felonies continue.

He’s right. We didn’t negotiate. We capitulated. We surrendered. Well, WE didn’t. Our Marxist, muslim-fearing government did. It doesn’t care what we think.

That's it, Obama administration, just keep saying the opposite of reality, and allow the media to be your mouthpiece.

Oh, I get it.....Apparently, the five terrorists released were just inprisoned enemy fighters and not really terrorists.

Hagel/0bama is a liar.

Absolutely incorrect.

Hagel is telling the absolute truth in the strictist sense.

The definition of NEGOTIATION

Negotiation is a dialogue between two or more people or parties intended to reach an understanding, resolve points of difference, to gain advantage for an individual or collective, or to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests.

With Hagel there was no haggle.

Hagel and Obama just flat turned over five of the worst terrorists held at Gitmo in return for an Army deserter who went AWOL because he was a terrorist sympathizer and who potentially has been providing aid to the enemy these last several years.

Hagel and Obama had no intention of trying to reach an understanding with the Taliban or Al Qaeda , nor did they wish to resolve points of difference with the Taliban and Al Qaeda because Obama has no points of difference with the Taliban and Al Qaeda and Obama has been doing everything in his power to support these terror groups.

There obviously was no attempt by Hagel and Obama to to gain advantage for the United States or the Western world, nor were there attempts to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests - Hagel and Obama just unilaterally released five bad guys in what is seen by the entire Islamic World as major victory by and for Islamic terror.

This was a totally one sided deal, done in secret that puts Americans at risk of being kidnaped by terrorists as fodder for prisoner swaps and gives Al Qaeda ah massive propaganda boost in the Muslim

So Hagel was absolutely correct, he and Obama did NOT negotiate with terrorists, they just gave the terrorists what they wanted with no negotiation involved.

To determine what Obama and Hagel DID do , one would have to look up words in the dictionary like Surrender, Submission to Islam, Treason, AId , Comfort and a few other choice descriptive words.

To the best of my knowledge, Hagle has not denied doing any of the above so we cannot accuse him of lying

“How do you release 5 terrorists at Gitmo and NOT negotiate with terrorists?”

Well, you negotiate with Qatar, and Qatar negotiates with the terrorists for us. One step removed, so,,,, not guilty!

Lawmakers were not notified of the Guantanamo detainees’ transfer until after it occurred.

The law requires the defense secretary to notify relevant congressional committees at least 30 days before making any transfers of prisoners, to explain the reason and to provide assurances that those released would not be in a position to reengage in activities that could threaten the United States or its interests.

Before the current law was enacted at the end of last year, the conditions were even more stringent. However, the administration and some Democrats had pressed for them to be loosened, in part to give them more flexibility to negotiate for Bergdahl’s release.

A senior administration official, agreeing to speak on the condition of anonymity to explain the timing of the congressional notification, acknowledged that the law was not followed. When he signed the law last year, Obama issued a signing statement contending that the notification requirement was an unconstitutional infringement on his powers as commander in chief and that he therefore could override it.

“Due to a near-term opportunity to save Sergeant Bergdahl’s life, we moved as quickly as possible,” the official said. “The administration determined that given these unique and exigent circumstances, such a transfer should go forward notwithstanding the notice requirement.”

If this can be verified, it will be proof positive that Bergdahl is a deserter, and worse.

Good find...So the King is now making an attempt to cover himself for ignoring laws that he signed, I guess not too surprising.

It must be great to be King.
