Lonegan campaigns in CD 3 against 'liberal Republican establishment' (primary tomorrow!)

Taking shots at the “liberal Republican establishment,” congressional hopeful Steve Lonegan again told a crowd of supporters on Monday he looks forward to clinching a victory in tomorrow’s GOP primary.

“We have the momentum,” Lonegan told another friendly group on his diner tour in the lead up to Tuesday’s primary election against fellow Republican Tom MacArthur.

The closely-watched race between Lonegan and MacArthur hasn’t been without one camp taking shots at another. Now, with a short time to go before voters head to the polls, Lonegan took the opportunity to toss veiled criticism at those who balked at backing him to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan (R-3).

“We’re not going to be pulled around by our noses by the liberal Republican establishment,” he declared.

Lonegan made comments inside a Medford diner as he travels the district taking shots at his opponent and vows to supporters he’ll work on repealing the Affordable Care Act if sent to Washington D.C.

Meanwhile, MacArthur largely stayed out the spotlight as Tuesday’s election nears. The former Randolph mayor was slated to make comments at his campaign headquarters, according to his campaign.

But in response to Lonegan’s earlier comments about MacArthur gaining establishment support because of his deep pockets, the former mayor issued a quick response indicating he’s proud of his endorsements.

“Our volunteers have made tens of thousands of phone calls and knocked on thousands of doors sharing our positive message directly with voters,” MacArthur said in a statement.

McArthur isn’t a liberal and Lonegan isn’t Mr. Perfect himself.

Lonegan is poor perennial candidate who keeps running again and again because of his giant ego. He would have a very good chance at losing this seat to the rat. The establishment in this case is wise to back someone else.

But hey that’s not important right, what’s important is Lonegan says he’s the “tea party” guy and that the “establishment sucks”, empty campaign rhetoric, great reason to support someone.

He (Steve) also has no ties to the district, he moved their just cause the seat is open! This guy desperately wants to get elected.

“He would have a very good chance at losing this seat to the rat.”

I thought he had a good chance because he won this very district in the Senate race last year.

Apparently that’s his go to campaign slogan. Yes he did carry it, over Cory Booker, a rat who was running a lousy campaign. Cory Booker would have lost in a more Republican state.

The district is more Republican than the state at large, a Republican getting 44% statewide like Steve did is probably gonna be carrying that district, McCain and Romney did worse than that and narrowly lost the district. I would not have expected Cory Booker to carry it, especially in a special election with low turnout.

This time the rat is not Cory Booker, it’s local a rat who probably isn’t a clown like Booker, and she has more money in the campaign till than Steve, and it’s not a special election with low turnout.

Lonegan and his brother are, at a personal levels, complete and total arseholes to deal with, and most of the major donors in NJ have at this point figured this out through their personal interactions with the Lonegan brothers.

He is a bottomless black hole where tea party/conservatives can throw their political donations, sucking political monies away from more viable candidates and causes elsewhere.

He’s basically running the Pat and Bey Buchanan 1990’s political donation/consulting racket on a local level, it’s an ugly machine and you don’t want to be associated with it.

Alex Sink thought she had a very good chance of being elected to Congress for the same reason (won the district during an unsuccessful statewide bid the previous year)

Lonegan just made a concession call to MacArthur.
