(CNSNews.com) – A new analysis by the Employment Policy Institute (EPI) shows that unemployment among teens without a high school diploma is more than 50 percent in two of the largest U.S. cities.
Using U.S. Census Bureau data from May 2013 to April 2014, the analysis reveals that in Riverside-San Bernardino area of Southern California, the unemployment rate for teens ages 16 to 19 years old who don’t have a high school diploma is 54.2 percent.
In the Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, Ore., metropolitan area, the unemployment rate from that population is 53.8 percent.
“These numbers are staggering,” Michael Saltsman, director of research at EPI told CNSNews.com. “Teens across the country this summer are missing out on valuable work experience as they continue to suffer through an extended period of high unemployment and difficult job prospects.”
Three other California metropolitan areas round out the Top 5 cities with the highest unemployment for the least skilled young people – Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana (39 percent), San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos (37.5 percent) and San Francisco-Oakland-Freemont (35.2 percent).
Saltsman said these young people would be hurt more if state and federal legislators increase the minimum wage.

A few years ago I stopped at a McDonald’s a few towns over and the woman handing over my food didn’t understand any English. I had to go inside because the order was wrong. They handed me a replacement, lo and behold, it was wrong too. I called the manager when I got home to complain about them hiring what is obviously illegal aliens and where in the hell are American kids supposed to work these days. DO you know what he said? “They work at Starbucks and places like that.”
Unbelievable. We’ve got a perfect storm here. Flooded with tird-worlders, enabling do-nothing government, and greedy unpatriotic American schmucks.
Can you really attribute an adjective like “honest” to a whole race of people? If so, what makes the Mexican race more apt to tell the truth than say the Polish? Ironically, my first “boyfriend” was Mexican and he lied to me about his age. My best friend freshman year was Mexican and she lied to me about her allegiances. As for hardworking, maybe a lot of them are, but that still does not excuse the fact that our own need jobs badly and a lot of them are not available because the “hard-working” Mexicans take them. Being a hard worker is an admirable trait, but to me even more admiral is a country’s citizens taking care of their own, giving them a chance to prove they too can be hard-working. Teens and young adults might not be the best employees but at least in the past we knew they had to start somewhere! If native-born white Americans were not also hard-workers how in the world did we end up the greatest superpower?
All of the fast food chains in my area are staffed by Hispanics; some smaller businesses will still hire whites. The Stewart’s in my town no longer opens on Mondays; I’ve never seen that before, but I’m not surprised. Drove past on the weekend at lunchtime and there was less than half a dozen cars there; the prices are too high and the food isn’t “fast”.
My county went overwhelmingly for Obama; there aren’t many Americans left here.

Back when I was a young man, native-born white Americans WERE hard-working, educated and had parents who instilled in them the requisite values for success in life. Those people made this country the success that it was. It is a sad commentary on this country that we have abdicated the “hard work” jobs to the underclass of Hispanics. And to be fair, “business” has also been a driver in this process. Business people have little or no patriotism today. The business schools have turned out trash whose only thought is where the next buck is coming from and not how that process impacts the nation. Outsourcing to China is a prime example of their thinking. And yeah Costco is a success, because they sell mostly Chink $hit! They think nothing of selling you foodstuffs from China even though the stuff may be poison. So when you think about all the crooks in the government, you have to look elsewhere to see that they are everywhere today.
Actually it is the illegal ones too. Since most of them have American born children they receive all those benefits for those children.
I worry that we're done. Everywhere you look, there's some ridiculous outrage.

Yup. A couple things I know.
80% of all the garlic consumed in the USA comes from China. Most of the 100% real juice, contains 80% apple juice from China.

My neighbor told me last night that this W/E he had to teach his 38 year old son how to use a check-book so that he would have a receipt for the child-support payments he was giving to his ex-wife. He's just been paying cash W/O a receipt.
I bit my tongue.
I’m a supervisor for a major manufacturing facility here where I live.
Hispanics are no more or less hardworking than Blacks or Whites.
Of the 40 or so folks I have working for me right now the hardest working employee I have is a 35 year old Black man.
The issue is with the ILLEGALS and their propensity to take jobs from teens and legal minorities. Granted it’s not all their fault because business are more than happy to hire someone willing to work off the books for half the money.

Yeah, I live 50 miles from Gilroy, CA which is billed as the “Garlic Capitol” of the country, and yet Costco has garlic from China. The Chinks probably soak their garlic in melamine or some other toxic chemical before they send it over. It’s not just their dog food or their sheet rock that’s adulterated.

I think that maybe you should take a look outside your company. I am not suggesting that there are not hardworking Blacks (or any other group for that matter), but my experience is that the Hispanics are generally more willing to do whatever work there is to do because most of them have had their “life’s experience” south of the border. The people I know who hire semi-skilled labor all say that the Hispanics do a better job than other groups.
That has not been my experience and I have 20+ years under my belt living in West Texas.
