I know an airline pilot who is a high ranking officer. He volunteered for a year in Afghanistan. When he came home his whole town, including the police and fire department, held a celebration. America is still out there.
I remember the celebration I got when I came home from Nam, back in 1971, walking through the Atlanta airport. Got spit at and called a baby killer. Yup. I remember my home coming very well.
