Controversy has surrounded newly freed Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl since his release from Taliban captivity, with some in the military, including members of his own unit, claiming he is a deserter, not a war hero.
But Sherry Horton knows a different Bergdahl than the one the world has come to see in the chilling proof of life videos the Taliban released.
"He's a very interesting guy, he was very quiet, he was an observer," Horton said.
Horton, the artistic director of Sun Valley Ballet in Idaho, said she was Bergdahl's ballet teacher and later, she became his roommate in his hometown of Hailey, Idaho, when Bergdahl was about 18 or 19 years old. She describes Bergdahl as someone who was interested in mixed martial arts, culture, languages and learning new things.
"He was a wonderful [ballet] partner, all the girls enjoyed dancing with him because he was so strong and steady," she said.

ummmmmm.... ok I knew some track guys who took ballet to improve their high hurdle performance. Maybe this guy was a track athlete?

He was a great guy who served with honor and distinction.
All military personnel should definitely look to Bergdahl as a model.

The only controversy there should be is in which way he should be executed.

Incredible. The media still trying to spin this by portraying Bergdahl in a different light. What’s next? Are they going to link all of these military “whistleblowers” in the Pentagon and in Bergdahl’s unit to elements in the Tea Party? I’m not shocked anymore at the lengths the media goes to defend the left.
Yes, I'm sure the young man was a sensitive and dedicated listener of NPR.
Where have we heard that phrase before ? Can't quite remember, but I think it was most often included in a sentence that also included such phrases "he was just turning his life around" and "aspiring rapper"
What is the over/under on how many days it takes before he comes out as gay?
There is a scene in the Godfather when they plot to kill the police captain who hit Michael. ..Michael comes up with the idea to use “friends” in the media to plant articles on what a bad man the capt. was. We are witnessing the WH’s using their friends in the media to push back now.
Sweet, but none of this speaks to his capacity to desert the US Army.

The Pentagon on several occasions had ground-level intelligence on where ArmySgt. Bowe Bergdahl was being held captive at various times — down to how many gunmen were guarding him — but special operations commanders repeatedly shelved rescue missions because they didn’t want to risk casualties for a man they believed to be a “deserter,” sources familiar with the mission plans said.
Commanders on the ground debated whether to pull the trigger on a rescue several times in recent years, according to one of the sources, a former high-level intelligence official in Afghanistan, who said the conclusion each time was that the prospect of losing highly trained troops was too high a price to pay for rescuing a soldier who walked away from his unit before being captured by the enemy.
A second source told The Washington Times that the rescue operation plans were “high risk” and became even less attractive in recent months when officials in the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command grew convinced that the Taliban and the militant Haqqani network, whose operatives were holding Sgt. Bergdahl, were eager to cut a deal for his release.
