Obama’s Casual Contempt for the Military
Ricochet ^ | June 5, 2014 | Jon Gabriel

Sitting in the boardroom, a dozen social workers, salesmen and developers were waiting for the Health IT CEO to kick off the meeting. As we rocked in our chairs, my boss — an MSW-cum-Chief Sales Officer — complained about his “black sheep” cousin who was shaming the family name.

“The rest of us went to college but he’s stuck in the Army,” he said.

“Sounds like a good start to me,” I replied, as the only employee with military experience.

Those assembled rolled their eyes while my boss looked at me with pity. “He enlisted, Jon. He obviously isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.” Pausing for a beat he added, “no offense.”

None taken, jerk...

Like many left-of-center Americans, he knew nothing about the military. I have repeatedly noticed this casual contempt, especially from those raised in northeastern states or academic circles. They never considered serving and don’t associate with anyone who has.

Team Obama fits firmly into this group. As we saw with the VA scandal and again with the Bergdahl debacle, President Obama and his defenders continually ooze contempt — often without realizing it. Their utter tone-deafness on military issues regularly turns bad news into all-consuming nightmares...

... As we rocked in our chairs, my boss — an MSW-cum-Chief Sales Officer...sounds like a social worker I served with back in the late sixties - he had to be in uniform because he couldn't get out of it, but he carried a copy of Mao's "Little Red Book" around with him and displayed it conspicuously whenever possible to show us all his defiance and contempt for what we were all involved in - without of course risking getting himself in any real trouble in doing so - what a guy....

Being in the military is best left to those who hold the mindset that “doing your duty” is of the highest importance and “following your heart” is of the least importance.

Leftists don’t get this because they are all about feelings.

Michael Medved talked about this before in reference to which movies win awards and which movies don’t.....he basically said that if the choice is between a movie which is a do your duty themed movie and a followmyour heart themed movie...always bet on the later towing because lefty liberal hollywood types with always fall that direction.

It is also why leftists do not understand why a smart person would enlist in the military because only a dumb sucker would be selfless enough to put their country (aka their duty) I front of their own personal goals and aspirations...aka following their heart.

Having lived long enough to have known many of the greatest generation, I have seen over time that we are devolving into a wholly different breed of human. It is like Darwinism in reverse.
Unbridled ambition, dishonesty, disloyalty and manipulation are considered desirable traits.

I worked in a Defence-oriented magazine in Washington DC, with a lot of Georgetown U grads. They had nothing but contempt for the military, and it showed in their sloppy proofreading and lack of work ethic. Give me a young service member who’s had the guts to leave all they’ve known behind in order to better themselves and serve their country any day. They are smarter, stronger, braver and a hell of a lot more fun. Way better stories too.

Just did some cursory research and found that over 70% of U.S. presidents had military service of some sort. Doesn’t quite jibe with the left’s narrative of service being only for us rubes.

I agree.....my profession is a “do your duty” kind of job so it is very hard to watch Wight t becoming 100% disillusioned.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of my father in-law landing on d-day in a gliderat Normandy during the nite with the airborne troops.

He is hanging in there in a nursing home but I do not think he will see another year.
