Approach to soda, to be patterned after tobacco

Upon a declaration of a “war” against the product, advocates against the consumption of soda state that it should also include in its labels the risks for developing diseases such as obesity and diabetes. By doing so, they will be using an approach quite similar to the tobacco’s.

I am waiting for the class action lawsuit against soda companies on par with what was applied towards the cigarette companies.

I am also waiting for anti-soda ads like we see for anti-tobacco ads, before any rental video I rent.

I would say I am being sarcastic, but this would not surprise me.

Hmmmmm. Am I REALLY, REALLY wrong or does a 'disease' require a virus or bacteria as it's root cause. Nowadays just label something a 'disease' and you can scare the hell outta people and push whatever $hit product you want. PAD Peripheral Artery Disease. Nothing to do with virus or bacteria but it's a disease.

I guess the McDonald’s obesity lawsuit was the start; it failed. The lawyers for the fat tub said McDonald’s targeted children by using a clown to sell unhealthy food to kids...

The best diet includes no sugar, no grains, no processed foods. The problem is Americans on average consume 145 lbs of sugar a year.

Nobody stood up for the smokers, and that was just the test case. Now, they’re going to do the same thing to soda, snacks and chips, and fast food.
Probably put in place a carb tax, or something similar, and put restrictions on who can buy those products, just like tobacco. You probably won’t be buying a lot of soda when it hits $10.00 a 20oz bottle, assuming that they tax it at the same rate as tobacco.

This is the paradigm we’ve all agreed to: If something can be shown to be “bad enough” for you, then the Government can step in, either with taxes, regulation, or outright Prohibition. Again, this is what we all agree is the Government’s role.

It’s like the old joke: We already know what we are, now we’re just haggling over the details.

I agree with you. I know my life is so much better without sugar. My children eat real food, a lot of it from our own back yard. I don’t need Big Gov telling me what to eat.

The issue I have is with those who take my money via various social programs. I should be able to tell them what to eat, especially when the issue is compounded by me paying for their healthcare.

You haven’t seen the “Obesity doesn’t just affect YOU” commercials? With the little girl BEGGING her mother to “come out and play,” but the obese mother can’t because she is confined to her couch, watching TV while surrounded by soda bottles, bags of chips, and donuts?

‘Cause we’ve had those in NY State for several years now.

After what they’ve done to smokers, they now know they can get away with it. Might take them a little time, but they will not give up.

I just heard on the radio yesterday that here in CA that they’re working to put a Proposition on the November ballot for a 2c per oz tax on soda statewide.
