The U.S. added 217,000 jobs in May as labor markets seem to be gaining the kind of sustained momentum that has proven elusive as the economy has struggled to recover from the 2008 financial crisis.
The headline unemployment rate was 6.3%, according to figures released Friday by the Labor Department. That rate is the same as in April, when 288,000 jobs were created, far more than had been expected.
Economists had predicted an addition of 218,000 jobs in May and that the unemployment rate would tick higher to 6.4%.
With May's additions the economy has now recovered all of the 8.7 million jobs lost during the recession that followed the crisis.
Since the crisis the economic recovery has occurred in fits and starts, with key sectors such as labor and housing appearing to gain traction only to stumble repeatedly. The May report suggests sustained momentum in the labor sector because it represents the fourth consecutive month in which more than 200,000 jobs were created.

The number, of course, shall be revised “for unexpected reasons” several weeks from now, but by then they shall have compiled yet another week of phony statistics, at which they may claim “recovery” is well under way.

Last week, there were over 300,000 NEW claims for unemployment.
Can someone please tell me how this is called a “RECOVERY”?

And they don’t even count the small businesses that he’s destroyed that CAN’T file for unemployment benefits. I’ll lay money that the amount of annual income for small business is WAY own except some industries where their services are a must have like hairdressing, plumbing or auto mechanic shops but I bet even thir revenue is down some.
This added jobs number will be adjusted downward in the future - count on it.
Are part-time jobs counted as jobs? A lot of people are working but just part-time while wanting full-time.
BS. FOX or no FOX, it’s still at least 14%.
Glad to know the Gov’t still hiring.
Isn’t the economy great?
I mean, wow... we’re just about 1% above what most economists call “full employment”, where everyone that can work is working.
Feels just like the late 90’s now, doesn’t it?
Happy days are here again!
The Obama Monthly Recovery
Added 200,000 imaginary jobs and 210,000 actual illegal aliens from Mexico.
The unemployment rate is -2.1%, because I said so.
