State education officials have "egg on our face" after misspelling of "Kentucky"

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority sent out books to every junior in the state, outlining what they need to know while preparing for college.

There's only one small problem: the word "Kentucky" is misspelled on the spine of the book. The photos at right were provided by viewer Liz Palmer.

We talked with Erin Klarer with KHEAA. She tells us several schools, parents, and even state officials have let them know about the mistake, but to reprint and redistribute them would cost about $70,000, so they opted to just - in her words - "deal with the egg on our face."

And what about gay apparel from “Deck The Halls”?”

Chaperoned a high school senior group which included my daughter on a bus trip one Christmas back in the very late 1970’s. They started singing secular Christmas songs including their own version of “Deck the Halls with bxxxs of Charlie.....” and it didn’t get much better for the rest of that song. It was interesting that shortly thereafter they began singing Silent Night and some other religious songs.

My daughter later commented that the reason they liked having me as a chaperone was because I didn’t lecture. Memories of raising a teenager in the 1970’s. Certainly wouldn’t want to do it now.

Turns out, that most Kentuckians are unable to spell the state name correctly without immediately following it with the phrase, ‘Fried Chicken’...
