The Obama administration said on Friday that it was launching a program to help recruit lawyers for children facing deportation as it scrambles to deal with the soaring number of unaccompanied Central American minors illegally crossing the border from Mexico.
Under the plan, the federal government will issue $2 million in grants to enroll about 100 lawyers and paralegals to represent children making their way through the immigration court system.
“We’re taking a historic step to strengthen our justice system and protect the rights of the most vulnerable members of society,” Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said in a statement. “How we treat those in need, particularly young people who must appear in immigration proceedings — many of whom are fleeing violence, persecution, abuse, or trafficking — goes to the core of who we are as a nation.”
Administration officials have been trying to cope with a surge of unaccompanied children, mainly from Central America, that has overwhelmed border officials as well as the nation’s family and immigration court systems.
On Monday, the administration ordered federal emergency authorities to coordinate a multiagency response to the relief effort. Two emergency shelters have been opened on military bases — one at Naval Base Ventura County in Oxnard, Calif., and the other at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio — to house as many as 1,800 youths.
Since October, more than 47,000 children traveling without parents have been caught trying to cross the Southwest border, a 92 percent increase over the same period last year. Most are coming from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, officials said.
Conservative critics say that the administration’s lax enforcement of immigration law has sent encouraging signals to Central Americans suggesting that they may enjoy a de facto amnesty if they get across the Mexico border.

Where does this money actually come from and who authorizes the payments? Is there a slush fund somewhere for ad hoc requirements like this? And where is the leadership from the House of Representatives on this?
Why? Because the Hispanic (Mexican) vote will give the Demoncrats a shot at getting Texas’ electoral votes and a lock on the electoral college and the presidency for generations. The Demoncratic Party doesn’t give two cents about middle class Americans. Political power, patronage and access and control of America’s wealth is all these despicable people care about.

Two points Eric. This does not strengthen our justice system because these invaders are not Americans. Nor are they they the most vulnerable. They did manage to seek through one or more countries and then completed a serious crime of illegally entering our Country. Hardly little innocents. Gather them up photo and print them. Send them back. If caught in this country a second time then to jail they go.... You all treat Americans worse then this. You better get with it and start doing your job...........

You have got to be kidding me. Our military bases are now child care centers? Letting 100 of holder’s lawyers on base is a security risk.

There are so many that it's hard to keep track.
Almost as infuriating as the fact that this administration is not only complicit in this invasion but most likely planned it is the fact that they think we are stupid enough to think these Central American kids somehow were able to make it all the way through Mexico and to our border.
