Jimmy Doohan (Scotty from star trek) went ashore with the first wave on Juno beach without a scratch. During the following night he got shot 6 times by an overeager Canadian sentry with a BREN gun, resulting in the loss of his right middle finger.

Salinger sought out Hemingway at the Hotel Ritz in Paris and showed him his writing. Hemingway actually read it and said he had talent.
