Seas Rise, Fla. GOP Leaders Balk at Climate Change
ABC News ^ | June 7, 2014 | By MICHAEL J. MISHAK

Few places in the nation are more vulnerable to rising sea levels than low-lying South Florida. It's a tourist and retirement mecca built on drained swampland.

Other coastal states and the Obama administration are taking aggressive measures to battle the effects of global warming. But Florida's top Republican politicians are challenging the science and balking at government fixes.

Full-blown propaganda by the AP. Who else? Love how they cherry pick weather events and then roll them into their “global warming is causing it” meme.

Heavy summer storms temporarily flood numerous parts of FL. South Florida is not alone in this regard.

The seas aren’t rising, it isn’t getting warmer. The polar caps aren’t disappearing, we are not having more hurricanes and the polar bears aren’t floating around lost on ice floes. This is no evidence that the things that the global warming alarmists have been warning us about for decades has happened. There is plenty of evidence, however, that these very same alarmists have doctored evidence to bolster their claims.

Again, how do you combat Mother Nature? She has an unbeaten record against humanity yet these idiot liberals think they can tame her through government spending. No, climate change is another in the long line of Democrat scam programs which add fresh millions to their bank accounts and give them more control over our lives.

There is no better proof of the lie that the seas are rising than Al Gore who bought a $9 million SEASIDE mansion in California. Now if the prophet of global warming apocalypse who assured us that the rising seas would soon be inundating our coasts, buys a seaside mansion he obviously places no credence in his own prophecy and likely has the money to buy this $9 million mansion from perpetrating this hoax.

That’s still about 2 inches in 20 years.....and I’m not buying that either.

Climate change is as natural as the turning of the earth. Time, geography and topography cause climate change. How is it that the left has so effectively hi-jacked the term to mean “man caused, business created and white male Republican supported destruction of all life on planet earth”?

Let’s also look at the supposed “cause” of the “rising” sea level, which is melting of the polar ice caps. Both North and South ice caps barely represent 5% of the area of our oceans globally.

Scientists have been concerned that in recent years that the thickness of the ice caps has been as little as four to six feet, with ten to thirteen feet being a “safe” norm.

Somehow, they try to tell us that if the ice caps were to completely melt, that sea levels would rise by over three feet.

Hmmmm....if we’ve seen ice cap thicknesses more than 50% below than the norm in the last 20 years, wouldn’t that mean we should have had an 18” or greater rise in sea level? We’d certainly have know it and felt its effect if it happened....apparently it didn’t!

The sea-level change business can create a lot of concern if the data is selectively used. Rarely, both polar regions experience a simultaneous drop in sea ice, normally the Polar regions response independently of each other, because of very different geography. A quick look at a globe of the earth explains why. The North Pole is surrounded by land masses, with the only notable break being the Norwegian Sea. The South Pole region is surrounded by lots and lots of water.

To attempt to link what is happening to the North and South polar ice caps to a single issue like CO2 emissions is absurd, given the dynamics of the two regions are so different.

At almost any time in history, alarmists can find melting of one or the other polar ice caps. You may have noted that as polar ice in the Artic region has increased in recent years, the alarmists are now focusing on the Antartic region.

Cherry picking at its finest!

"Mean sea level rise: 3.28 mm/year."

Actually real sea level rise as measured by tidal gauges, is closer to 2 mm per year. The figure you quote is "adjusted" sea level rise. More then a few experts have issues with the methods use to "adjust" the data.

“Seas Rise, Fla. GOP Leaders Balk at Climate Change”

Interesting headline for an article about heavy rain and not a single fact, study, or reference that any actual sea is actually rising anywhere on the planet.

"Together, the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets contain more than 99 percent of the freshwater ice on Earth. The Antarctic Ice Sheet extends almost 14 million square kilometers (5.4 million square miles), roughly the area of the contiguous United States and Mexico combined. The Antarctic Ice Sheet contains 30 million cubic kilometers (7.2 million cubic miles) of ice. The Greenland Ice Sheet extends about 1.7 million square kilometers (656,000 square miles), covering most of the island of Greenland, three times the size of Texas.

"Ice sheets contain enormous quantities of frozen water. If the Greenland Ice Sheet melted, scientists estimate that sea level would rise about 6 meters (20 feet). If the Antarctic Ice Sheet melted, sea level would rise by about 60 meters (200 feet)."

Sea level is pretty much unaffected by melting sea ice (it’s already floating). Just as the level in your glass of ice tea is unaffected by melting ice.

Was just down at the Gulf a couple days ago, it’s in the exact same place it has always been.

Go figure.

Florida has had water management districts for decades. It’s doing well, and most of Broward county is being taken off the mandatory flood insurance list this year. I’m sure the government butt kissing weasels at ABC will mention this.

Good. Climate change is a hoax. If they believe it is real, the liberals all along the east coast of Florida can move back north and inland. Bye.

I live in Florida - my backyard ends at a saltwater stream... high tides and low have been the same for 30 years... no change I can see.
