With Bergdahl handover, proof that successful deals can be made with Taliban (They're serious!)
The Washington Post ^ | June 6, 2014 | Anne Gearan

The exchange of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five senior members of the Afghan Taliban marks the anticlimactic end of what the Obama administration once hoped would be a bold diplomatic stroke to help broker peace in Afghanistan.

Bergdahl’s return is not, as originally envisioned, a step toward a larger U.S. bargain with the Taliban and the Afghan government. Instead, Bergdahl’s release represented the last major piece of unfinished Taliban business for the United States, as it winds down 13 years of combat and prepares for the departure of all U.S. fighting forces from Afghanistan by the end of this year.

But the successful handover does prove that deals can be made and that the United States has a channel for negotiation that the next Afghan president might be able to use, said current and former U.S officials and people familiar with a classified briefing to Congress on the Bergdahl swap.

The hope is that either of the two candidates vying to succeed Hamid Karzai as Afghanistan’s leader could build on the established contacts to seek political reconciliation with the Taliban....

Obama's avowed goal is and always has been to "end this war". This negotiation proves that he can accomplish that task with all the finality of General Charles Cornwallis at Yorktown, General Robert E. Lee at the Appomattox Court House, and General Umezu aboard the USS Missouri. The difference is that Obama will manage to end this war with less dignity and less success than we showed in the fall of Saigon.

Once there is an “end to hostilities” the Taliban can set about getting full control, there will be no news of atrocities. If there is the media won’t touch it...much like the deaths of Christians in Syria, Egypt, Sudan and across southern Africa.

This was too much even for the mainstream media, but soon they’ll be back to their bread and butter.

No need to look it up, Krauthammer has never been a conservative.

He was a liberal who drifted into libertarianism after being disillusioned during the Carter-Mondale fiasco.

Can you imagine what a doofus he had to be to write speeches for Mondale? He was working for the nitwits that Reagan crushed in a 44 state landslide.

Funny story: I worked civilian security at an Air National Guard base in Iowa after I left the Army. Knew the boiler repairmen pretty well since we called them often in the winter (and my uncle was among them) so I was surprised to see the most senior boiler tech walk up when we were guarding the newly arrived aircraft holding former Vice President Mondale. Wes (the boilerman) walked up to Fritz and hugged him like a long lost brother. The base commander, a brigadier general, was shocked and moved to separate them. Fritz explained that they were Masonic brothers and that Wes was actually above him in that organization.

Good grief! Successful for who? For us? Wow.

It could only be deemed a success for terrorists world-wide knowing what we know.

Now the Washington Post is the Taliban paper of record?

Wow.

“This is like capturing and releasing Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels, Franz Stangl, Josef Kramer, and Ernst Kaltenbrunner during WWII.”

And getting Al Capone in return.

“They got an American deserter in return for five mass-murdering terrorist leaders.”

There must be a lesson to be learned here. For one thing, if you own a car dealership and you’re looking for a salesman, don’t hire Obama.

It’s all conversation by useful idiots.

There never was a trade. What did America get back of value?

For Barack and his brethren, he gifted the globe well rested terrorists to renew their attacks on western man.

For America? Nothing, excepting we will have a government sanctioned terrorist and his peers walking amongst us.

This guy, like Michelle Obama, denied America.

...and we wonder why we are failing.

Don't worry Bo. If you are ever captured for ransom, I'd give them Michelle and the girls to get you back. That would be a fair trade.

No matter what Anne Gearan has reported on in the past, this is just her uninformed or misinformed opinion. We attribute some grand wisdom to the people who write these columns but they are just people, narcissistic, self-inflated people and in the end, this is just their laughable opinion.

The real success is they got millions of our dollars, 5 of their top level military and all we got was a traitor.

“Bad Trade” as any old Indian Chief would say.
