Russian propaganda machine 'worse than Soviet Union'
bbc.com ^ | June 5, 2014 | Bridget Kendall

"We're on a roll," one Russian TV editor in chief tells me. "No-one can stop us now."

"First the Sochi Olympics, then we got Crimea back," says another man who I meet on Red Square. "And now we've won the World Ice Hockey championships as well."

It's as though everyone is a spectator at a sporting event, or watching a game show on TV - a detached enjoyment, as though this orgy of Russian patriotism carries no consequences, so there is no point in thinking where it might lead.

To be fair, lots of people are watching events unfold on TV. The sheer volume of different state-controlled channels is overwhelming. All glossy and well funded, each with their own slightly different but ultimately similar versions of the news - hours of slick, punchy and emotionally charged reports, set to thumping music, making your heart race.

It's hard not to get drawn in.

And on Ukraine there's one message - that the violence in eastern Ukraine is all Kiev's fault, that Ukraine is crawling with Russia-hating neo-Nazis and fascists, and that it's the US government which is fuelling the crisis behind the scenes, while Russia tries to act as peacemaker.

"Aggressive and deceptive propaganda... worse than anything I witnessed in the Soviet Union," is the verdict of Lev Gudkov, the director of the Levada Centre, Russia's most well respected polling organisation.

Cultural historian and publisher Irina Prokhorova goes further - she calls it "Stalinist", reminiscent of the anti-Western hysteria which marked the grim repressive years of the late 1940s.

US propaganda is a big rival to Russian propaganda these days.

I guess the truth is dead.

Neither of those hold a candle to the MSM here in the US ... watch the evening news and then try to demonstrate how the Soviet Union or Russia has better propaganda.

Add the French Open to the 2014 list.

Just saying.

The nation in the world today with the second-largest military budget is not the Soviet Union, which isn’t even in existence anymore anyway.

The nation in the world today with the second-largest military budget is China. Communist China.

China hasn’t changed that much. They are still communist. The still do not allow true foreign investment. They still do not allow foreigners as anything but second-class investors.

Yet they’re already challenging America.

And every American corporation, appears to be completely ready to sell out their very own nation, in order to continue doing business there.

Just saying.

The US doesn’t have much to cheer about lately. The only prosperity we’re going to see is if the EU and US power brokers drive us into a world war. That’s what the hate Russia campaign is all about.

Russian propaganda machine ‘worse than Soviet Union’

They are nothing compared to the Democrat machine. Even Orwell would have been stunned at how flagrant the lies are that come out of the liberal news and DC.

And you know what? The dumb “proles” eat it up like corn flakes for breakfast.

In reading the history of Russia you find a mainly passive people who will believe nearly any conspiracy story if it involves Jews or foreigners and if it includes Jewish foreigners it is universally thought to be true.
