A Taxing Tonic: Rep. DeLauro Wants Federal Soda Tax
CNSNews ^ | June 9, 2014 | Eric Scheiner

Video at source.

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) says she’s getting ready to propose a federal soda tax, “I am working on legislation right now to tax sugar-sweetened drinks, like sodas, in a way that reflects the serious damage they are doing to our health.”

DeLauro made the recorded comments for the Center For Science In The Public Interest“National Soda Summit” on June 5th.

"When a two-liter cola is 99 cents and blueberries are over three dollars, something has gone very wrong," DeLauro says.

“It is long past time that we pass and support policies that work to our better health instead. With that in mind I’m working on legislation right now to tax sugar-sweetened drinks, like sodas, in a way that reflects the serious damage they are doing to our health.”

DeLauro continued, “I hope to introduce legislation in a matter of weeks.”

This isn’t the first time DeLauro has poured out her thoughts on a national soda tax. She had previously mentioned the idea during a press conference on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in 2012.

“”When a two-liter cola is 99 cents and blueberries are over three dollars, something has gone very wrong,”

Typical of a liberal, though, her fix is to cause as much pain as possible, while raising more of our dough for her to spend. Don’t dare explore ways to use the market to reduce the price of blueberries, but make everything more expensive.

Dang, Foxon Park Soda is in her district. They make a great 7 1/2 oz. soda that would be PUMMELED by a per container tax.

Well, we knew that tax increases could stop the climate from warming, but who knew tax increases could cure obesity???

I like it!

And a salty food tax (Hot Pockets, Ramen noodles, chips), a low economy car tax (older cars of college students), a video game tax (anti-couch potato), and a fat nurse tax (just because).

Is she going to take the additional tax money and use it to lower the price of blueberries?

[ Is she going to take the additional tax money and use it to lower the price of blueberries? ]

Step 1. Subsidize Corn to cheapen the cost of High Fructiose Corn Syrup.

Step 2. Tax the cheap Cola that is a result of Step 1. in order to make the Soda more expensive.

Step 3. Use taxes from Step 2 to subsidize Blueberry Farmers to lower the price of Blue Berries.

Step 4. ????

Step 5. Glorius Communist Utopia...

This moron in congress is nothing more than a Socialist Underpants Gnome...

Rosa DeLauro provides a graphic illustration of the proposition that ugliness is not just skin deep - at least with Commies like her.

Last I heard, soda & other drinks are bottled in complete automation.

Last I heard, there isn’t a large crop of blueberries here in the USA, as they take particular growing conditions,

Also—this Congressperson can thank Caesar Chavez for the price of HAND PICKED crops to be so expensive.

Before he hit us with the UFW—I could buy fresh tomatoes all day long for about 35 cents a pound. Now- they range between $1.75 & 2.50 a pound. They can stay in the store on my Soc Sec income.

""When a two-liter cola is 99 cents and blueberries are over three dollars, something has gone very wrong," DeLauro says. "

This makes no sense.

If she had compared the price of soda to milk, I could see her point. no not really.

Why didn't she compare the price of soda to the price of meat?

Why pick on blueberries when there's pomegranates and oranges and kiwi and other fruit that are pricey.

If she finds that blueberries are too expensive, then why not lower their price to 99 cents?

Oh and the reason soda is so cheap is because the ingredients are cheap. The bottle and label cost more than the ingredients.

That photo is worth a lot of money. Can be used to cure erections lasting more than 4 hours.
