Google Will Soon Introduce 'Nearby' To Let Others Know When You're Around (Trunc)

A couple of months ago, we posted one of our early Google Search/Now rumors, and it was something of a long range rumor compared to others. While things like parking reminders, proper timer management, and bill pay reminders have already seen their public release, the ability to set contact-based reminders ("remind me when I'm with this person"), hasn't come forward yet. But it will likely appear very soon with a new feature in Android called Nearby, which will allow new interactions between you and nearby people, places, and things.

Did it ever occur to them that a lot of us don’t want ‘other’ people to know when we’re nearby?

Google still thinks I'm a dwarf lesbian african-american transsexual that owns an older Bently with a bad water pump, and buys Lime Jello(tm) in bulk.

Their database can be corrupted.

So that wasn’t your old bently with a puddle of coolant under it and a full back seat of Lime jello boxes? I am rather sure I saw a phone book on the drivers seat.....

I can’t imagine this being on anything other than an opt-in basis, or when notifying people of nearby places this would be based on published information. (You might be told there is a drugstore nearby, but if you want a house of ill repute, sorry that’s confidential.)

Right now, I am within 150 feet of 30+ people and getting a hamburger.

If I gave a flip I would call them but, I’m in a hurry and don’t like beings stalked by anyone.

My email and phone are strictly white listed and even then I might not take your call.

Nearby, for me, is the same as far away.

Yeah, because I NEED everyone to know what I'm doing at every moment.

Follow me on Twitter so you know when I'm wiping my bum.

Let me share every detail of my life on Facebook.

Allow me to let every rapist, kidnapper, and kook know where I am at any given moment.

Stalkers welcome!

Facebook offers to install something like this about three times a day. I really wish social media would quit treating everyone as though we were 14-year-olds obsessed with ring-tones, pictures of ourselves, who is following us, who is near us and who is hanging out together.

What puzzles me is that we don’t already have such an app.

In this form, it would (I certainly hope) be based on voluntary enrollment in interest lists. It won’t just blab on everyone in your email address book. Mary and John would have to agree to be nearbys to one another before either one could get nearby notifications about the other.

I’ve been inclined to view this number of the beast business as buying and selling ideas, rather than physical goods. If you don’t parrot the “beast’s” line you are on the outs. The forehead was a place that one of the symbols of ancient Jewish faith rested. The phylacteries, which were worn for certain worship rituals, had a unit that rested upon the forehead (and another one that rested on the arm, but was tied to the hand. Beast mark on arm and hand, hmm!

Ever notice how if you search for something, suddenly you get ads that match what you were looking for on unrelated web sites?

Google ads displays some bizarre things on computers I use regularly, because of the bogus searches I use just to corrupt their database.

As a 50-mumble man, a spanish language advertisement for a breast pump indicates that google may not know as much about me as they would like...
