Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl could be entitled to about $300,000 in back pay and special compensation following his release as a Taliban prisoner, experts say.
Service members designated by the Defense Department as "captive, missing or missing in action" are entitled to receive back pay and allowances, officials said. Any additional pay and allowances earned such as promotions or special entitlements are not issued until they are officially recovered or classified as deceased.
However, questions remain over how much Bergdahl will receive and how much he is able to keep as he faces potential charges following allegations from his former unit that he willingly left his post. There are also questions about his designation as a Prisoner of War and the special compensation attached to it.
Based on service length and known pay rates, Bergdahl's back pay and hostile fire pay would be about $150,000.

the DOD KNEW he was a deserter - yet kept promoting him and upping his pay - now they’d give him 300 grand - while REAL soldiers, after they get out, wait and wait and wait 2 years or more before they finally start getting their retirement and or disability - and don’t EVEN get me started on the education benefits scams - and delays - (you need not wonder why so many soldiers end up homeless and or commit suicide. One can wonder: Is this the plan?)
This deserter - the big wigs have already signaled they may not try him - WHAT - but he might be better off, safer, in jail - and/or take the money and run - far out of the country. He is persona non-Grata here. FOREVER. Maybe he can, when and if the war eve ends, go back to his buds in the “Ghan, wear his expensive, tailor made just-for-him white ‘gown’ - a sign of honor - that he was turned over in - and live happily ever after.
Of course he’ll get paid! As a deserter he’s a HERO to Progressives. Obama LOVES this guy. And you can be sure Obama has already told the DOD that there will be NO punishment of this ass hat.
Don’t worry, he never planned on keeping any money, his friends at the taliban need it worse than him and they are after all those he cares most about.
He deserted in time of war.....he should face the firing squad. Period.
Before Obammy is finished with him he will be receiving a Purple Heart and a Silver Star —
Once Bam pardons him Bergdahl will get his back pay and benfits for the rest of his miserable life.
Or, the Medal of Honor for saving his Taliban buddies when his squad was looking for him.
