The city has agreed to pay nearly $600,000 to settle allegations that police wrongfully arrested a group of Occupy Wall Street protesters, marking the largest settlement to date in a single Occupy-related civil rights case, the marchers' lawyers said Tuesday.
The city didn't immediately comment. City lawyers had said in court papers this fall that the arrests were lawful and police "acted reasonably, properly, lawfully and in good faith."
The individual protesters are receiving $5,000 to $20,000 apiece, and their lawyers $333,000 for fees and costs, the attorneys said.
But to protester Jennifer Peat, 36, "the point was never the money. It was that there be consequences for the actions of the NYPD."

The liberal mayors were all in support of these smelly hippy camps.
Not only was the clean-up in the millions, now they get to pay more bills.
I despise the hippies but it is great to see these city fathers hoisted on their own petards.
And everyone was given a gold star to paste on their forehead.
>> “the point was never the money.”
[Sounds of compressed laughter]
How many Police Officers have to go to pay for this ?
So, how much would I get for crapping on an NYPD car?
If you’re a lefty you can violate the law and benefit financially.
Order must have come from the commie mayor to surrender to the occupests.
Mayor Bloomberg opposed Occupy Wall Street.
They just need a little "diversity" training.
Now that de Blasio, a very leftist mayor, is mayor in New York, maybe Occupy Wall Street will come back?
I assume de Blasio would be more sympathetic than Bloomberg was? Just a thought. Hard to imagine de Blasio having his cops crack down on protesters.
Meanwhile the Hutaree are still trying to sue the feds and Michigan state police after spending 2 years in jail before being acquitted of all charges. ($25,000 for each of 16 counts)
Personally I also think the taxpayers are owed millions for the cost of the undercover operation, the raid involving over 100 agents, tactical assault vehicles, and choppers. Plus the cost of a two year federal trial.
Much how Federal Government agencies operates, these “settlements” may actually be the bureaucracy’s way of funding specific agenda or preferred political lobbying groups.
'nuff said.
Even if it were an even $600,000, that means the lawyers got more than half of the settlement for their services.
A wonderful bunch, those lawyers.
now there is profit in being vermin

Yup, $333,000 is a nice cut.
Does it not gall them that the lawyers get such a fat fee? And what will they do with their money, put it in a bank?
lawyers obviously took the case for free. If they had lost they would have worked years for nothing.
