Tom DeLay Conviction Overturned By Texas Appellate Court (Tom DeLay for Speaker)

A Texas court ruled Thursday to overturn the conviction of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who was found guilty of money laundering in 2010.

According to KHOU 11 and the Associated Press, the Third Court of Appeals in Austin said the case's evidence was "legally insufficient to sustain DeLay's convictions," formally acquitting the former congressman on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The idea of DeLay is particular appealing to me in that he was the one guy the Libs targeted and set up, illegal though that was. He would be right back in their faces, and without any election or fundraising issues to “investigate”. He would be free to pursue a vigorous Conservative agenda, and he knows how to get things done.

Sorry to rain on your parade but no, he’s not. He will not seek it and if he did he would not get it.

It’s speculative nonsense that the Speaker doesn’t have to be a member of the House, it’s not been ruled on. Frankly the whole notion of a non-member Speaker is absurd, it makes no sense at all. People just think they’re being clever by exploiting a hidden gray area of the constitution.

Despite frequent obsession with the idea every time a Speaker election comes around there is a ZERO percent chance it will ever happen.

Delay, a relic of the past who hardly did a perfect job and left under a cloud, would be an exceedingly poor choice even if the idea wasn’t ridiculous.

You want Boner gone? Someone will have to convince an actual member of the next Congress to actually man up and challenge him (no one did in 2013). No magic hero is gonna fall from the sky.

This isn't over yet. This has been picked up for review.

Texas Court of Criminal Appeals will hear Tom DeLay case -
By: Associated Press 03/19/2014 02:40 PM

The overturned conviction of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay
will be reviewed by the highest criminal court in Texas.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday agreed to hear the case after
prosecutors in Austin appealed a ruling last fall that threw out a
2010 money laundering conviction against DeLay.

No timetable was immediately set. -

It’s about time!!! The prosecutor in this case did some serious grand jury shopping. Delay should never have been indicted in the first place. Now, off to the DUmp to witness the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth...

That's what I been saying for almost two years. Its not a pretty job and I bet next year gets even worse.

The irony here was that in 2011 when the talk radio crowd finally soured on Boehner (because he was Speaker ) a rumor was floating around that Cantor would challenge Boehner from the right if he p...ed off the Tea party.

It went that the conservatives in the House trusted Cantor.

But that was ~ three years ago.

Cantor always sounded gay to me and I couldn't understand what the GOP house kept the same leadership after the 2008 loss. It made no sense to me to keep them on after that.

Uh, Tom Delay was NOT a good conservative. Remember when he kept the Medicare Part D vote open until 5 a.m. while he bribed, browbeat or threatened Republicans to vote for what they knew was wrong. Members were promised pork barrel projects. They were threatened with primary challengers. It was despicable. Nice to see his conviction overturned and Ronnie Earle rejected. But let's not herald this guy...
