Stunner: Cantor Upset Changes Everything
Roll Call ^ | Tuesday, June 10, 2014 | Christina Bellantoni, David Hawkings, Matt Fuller, and Daniel Newhauser

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in a Republican primary Tuesday, conceding his Virginia seat to a local activist after a stunning loss with possibly dramatic consequences for leadership, the chances of any immigration overhaul passing Congress and the future of his party.

He is the first majority leader ever to fall in primary defeat — the position was created in 1899.

Cantor, toppled by college economics professor Dave Brat, 56 percent to 44 percent, conceded just after The Associated Press declared the race over.

Democratic and Republican leadership aides expressed total disbelief and dumbfoundedness Tuesday night. Political operatives in the Old Dominion and organizers in Washington quickly studied election law to see if he could run as a write-in.

With his wife, Diana Fine Cantor, at his side, Cantor choked back emotion and did not sound like a man aiming to stage a comeback.

“I know there’s a lot of long faces here tonight. It’s disappointing sure, but I believe in this country, I believe there’s opportunity around the next corner for all of us,” he said.

Cantor has been a contentious figure within the GOP, never more so than early in the speakership of John A. Boehner, when speculation abounded about his background attempts to overthrow the Ohio Republican.

But that talk had been tamped down in recent years and the two leaders worked in tandem. In many ways, Cantor had been the intellectual leader of the House Republicans, preferring a hands-on approach to Boehner’s famously laissez-faire demeanor.

Cantor is known inside the conference as the leader most interested in projecting a kinder, gentler, approach for the party, not only on immigration but also at the margins of social policy.

Long, interesting take on Cantor's defeat from Capitol Hill.

As expected, the Ruling Class GOP leadership would rather see a Democrat in the seat than a Conservative.

Anyone who thinks voting Republican is going to turn back the tide is delusional.

The GOP-E has had control of the Nation’s purse strings for over 4 years.

Boehner has been in control as Speaker of the House for over 4 years.

Obama has thus been at the mercy of Boehner and the GOP-E for over 4 years.

Obama thus could not have been as successful as he has been without the full cooperation of the GOP-E and ESPECIALLY Speaker Boehner, Leader Cantor, Whip McCarthy, Economist Ryan, Chairman Mike Rogers, Chairman Issa and loose cannon Peter King of NY.

As long as the Member Republicans in the US House choose to keep in place the above Leadership team, Obama will be able to continue his personal race to the bottom.

Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi are just doing what they have been raised up to do: Destroy America, ASAP. They are Public Enemy Number One.

Those who refuse to oppose the destruction of our Republic are Public Enemy Number Two.

BTW, when have “ - - conservatives - - - ,” Boehner, Cantor, or Ryan EVER “Conserved” anything when doing battle with Obama, Reid, Holder or Pelosi? Hmmmmmmmmm?

____________________

The only thing that matters in politics is to stay on offense.

The GOP-E has perfected the art of always staying on defense.

Thus, the GOP-E will continue to lose elections by wide margins.

R Sc Rep. Trey Gowdy is an exception to the shunning of Offense by the GOP-E.

Gowdy has the required fire-in-the-belly to attack, Attack, ATTACK!

I stand with Gowdy, Lee and Cruz, who so far have told the truth, and then refused to apologize for telling the TRUTH.

The Republican Party has come a long ways since 2012.

In 2012, then GOP-E candidate Romneycare Romney published a book entitled “No Apologies.”

Also in 2012 Romneycare Romney told the truth about the 47 % who pay no personal FI Taxes, and thus would not vote for him.

Two weeks later, Romney apologized, saying “I was completely wrong.”

The GOP-E lost the support of Conservatives when GHW Bush lied to us about “Read my lips, NO NEW TAXES!”

The GOP-E lost the support of the “Hold-your-nose-when-you-vote” segment in 2008 by voting for McCain.

The GOP-E revealed itself to be a dedicated loser when they chose to run Romneycare Romney against Obamacare Obama.

Now we have “Scandal Coverup Artist” Sobber Boehner caving in to Obama, Reid, Holder and Pelosi on a weekly basis.

We need to march into the US House of Representatives and “escort” out the above mentioned “Leaders” for a TEA Party “reception” on the Lawn of the US House.

I have the tar, y’all bring the feathers!

He has kind of a long face, especially around the chin. He deserves to take it on his long chin. He was so deceptive; a turncoat. I could not stand to hear him try to charm-talk us with his pro-amnesty big government. All federal government is now local and personal. Last night when I was listening to Levin interview him and Brat said that even though he was 10 points behind, he still believed he had a chance. What a welcome surprise for all of us.

Nancy Pelosi’s quote on it being “a whole new ballgame” after Cantor winning, referring to Democrat’s chances at the 2014 midterm elections, shows how delusional she is. Instead of doubling down, she needs to be concerned as the tea party will take senate and keep the house.

Major upset in Republican politics and you’re saying it’s delusional to believe the Republican Party won’t be anything better than it is today?

That's what happens when a political party gets taken over by people who look upon government as an industry.

I've gotten to the point where I really don't give a flaming sh!t who sits in Congress or the White House. I just live my life as if they don't even exist ... and I'm much happier for it.

No doubt the current border situation with the thousands of illegal kids had a great impact on this race.

But Cantor also ran the most slimeball campaign imaginable, slinging all manner of dirt at Brat. He reversed his position many times on immigration and quite frankly does not have a lot of accomplishment behind him....unless you count voting like a democrat as an accomplishment. At some point, even low-involvement Republicans take offense at Repubs adapting the worst of the worst dem tactics. And he overloaded his turf with mailer after mailer, often changing message from one to the other. He Rove’d himself to death. I think it’s a lot to ask for the end of McConnell and (somewhat less) Graham but the next body I’d like to see carried out is Rove himself.

And I couldn’t be happier about the outcome!

A blessed relief tonight, to enjoy this victory without Karl Rove, on FOX. Nice.
