Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told a small gathering of pro-Israel American leaders Tuesday that an Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear facilities could happen in a matter of months.
In my view, [Iranian Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei believes there is no credible deterrence from the United States, theres not realistic risk of significant consequence for moving forward with their nuclear development, the Republican told the Spring National Leadership Meeting of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) at the Willard Hotel. That means, that if they keep going forward, I think if it comes down to it, I have real confidence that the nation of Israel will act to preserve her national security, even if this administration will not act first. And that could happen sooner rather than later that could happen in a matter of months.
Cruz, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a trip to the Jewish state in May, didnt say how he came to believe an Israeli strike might happen within a matter of months. But Cruz told the assembled JINSA leaders that he believes the Obama administration, which is currently engaged in negotiations with the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program, has shirked its responsibility in dealing with Irans nuclear program and is not taken seriously by Iranian leadership.
In my view, here is what a responsible president would do, Cruz, who is believed to be considering a 2016 presidential run, said. A responsible president would stand up on the world stage and say, Let me be clear: Under no circumstances will the nation of Iran be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons capability. We will impose crippling sanctions but they will either stop or we will stop them using all available means, including if necessary direct military force.
In my view, a policy of weakness and appeasement only increases the chance of military conflict, he said.
Cruz said he believes that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear-weapons power should be a responsibility shouldered by the United States, but in the absence of U.S. leadership, he takes comfort that Israel will act to defend itself.
I dont think Israel should have to act to prevent Iranian nuclear-weapons capability because it is so profoundly in U.S. national security interests that we should act, rather than forcing Israel to act, he said, but I do take some comfort that if this administration will not defend our interests, at the very least Israel will defend her interests.
Over the last several years, there have been many predictions by U.S. political and opinion leaders of an imminent Israeli air attack against Iranian nuclear facilities. So far, none of those predictions have proven accurate.
Possible, but isn’t there some political fight already going on in Israel with BiBi and the president or something or other. Might preoccupy them.
Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
Go Ted go! Go Israel go! Nuke ‘em! Nuke ‘em now! Purge the world of muzzies! Woo hoo!
Wot a bloody shame.
I support Ted on most things, but we have been riding that same creaky old merry-go-round for years; “When will Israel strike?!”, at a certain point, now? later? round and round it goes. One has to presume either the means or the collective will to do so is not there. Israel has a lot to lose by striking hard and heavy during this administration. They know Obama is not to be counted on for support, at least I hope they know by now.
It will happen sooner or later, and it appears that nearly the whole world will be involved with no better choice. Iranian leaders have long threatened to destroy the U.S.A, Israel and even the U.K. while building nukes with the aid of Russia and North Korea.
You betcha! I stand with Ted
They will strike if their intel says Iran is making a bomb. They will not commit suicide...unlike us.
Haven’t we been hearing this for years now?
Kinda like Glenn Beck saying that he has mind altering news that will fundamentally shake us to our core, but we have to wait and tune in next Thursday to hear it.
Israel is many years too late on this strike. My guess is that they are no longer willing to launch a preemptive strike, and Israel’s attack on Iran will come after Israel is nuked. It’s sad, but that’s what the political left wants (our left and their left), so that is likely to be what the left gets.
Any chance Israel can remove the Muzzie enemies in this country?
-——an Israeli strike——
Note the absence of the word air.
The upcoming strike like the previous disruptive actions need not come from the air to be effective
There have been several very effective preemptive strikes that disrupted the process.
Stuxnet is the most well known
Waiting for Israel to launch an air strike against Iran is like waiting for the Great Pumpkin...with similar results.
Ted Cruz for President
That’s my take as well. No preemptive strike. Strike what? The nuke facilities are deeply buried under mountains of rock. Then how do you know what you destroyed without going in there? A very complex problem. Better to infiltrate with spies and try to sabotage from the inside.
