Oklahoma Tea Party Candidate Supports Stoning Gay People to Death
Slate ^ | 11 June 2014 | Mark Joseph Stern

Posted on 06/11/2014 1:43:25 PM PDT by Lorianne

Given how savagely anti-gay the mainstream Oklahoma Republican party is, it’s no surprise that the state’s Tea Partiers are so rabidly hateful that they come across more as dark satire than as serious bigots. To wit: This week, an Oklahoma magazine discovered that last summer, Tea Party state House candidate Scott Esk endorsed stoning gay people to death: “I think we would be totally in the right to do it,” he said in a Facebook post. Esk went on to add nuance to his position:

That [stoning gay people to death] goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.

When a Facebook user messaged Esk to clarify further, he responded:

I never said I would author legislation to put homosexuals to death, but I didn’t have a problem with it.

I’ve seen this from Slate, Salon, HuffPo and they all claim he’s part of the Tea Party.. But I’ve yet to come across anything where he claimed he was Tea Party.

I’m won’t go so far to say it doesn’t exist, I’m sure I didn’t see everything, but this smells like a smear campaign.

No, I won’t get lost, but I will ask a favor from you.

The next time (if you get a next time) you post anti-Tea party crapola from some leftist site believing it to be true, ping me willya?

I love a good zot.

Another dem plant.

I think you are probably right on that, if the report of what he said is accurate.

I agree with you. This is one of the most bizarre threads I’ve seen of FR in years.

Thank goodness he's not a T.E.A Party guy!

...he's Libertarian.

It’s in the news.
It’s on OK tv news!

Are we just supposed to pretend it’s not there?
If we don’t confront it, it doesn’t exist?

I have never understood this attitude here at FR that if you just ignore what is out there that it doesn’t exist. It’s the most bizarre thing.

Ok whatever, don’t investigate, don’t find out anything, always be fighting a rear guard action because you’re days behind ... good grief

The chances of anyone getting stoned in today’s moral cesspool are slight, unless the Muslims take power. The big problem today is homosexual recruitment of kids from dysfunctional families.

I don't see any indication yet that any organized Tea Party group supports the guy.

Of course, the Tea Party is a grass-roots, bottom-up movement, so it's hard to say just who is and who isn't a member, but it ought to take something more than just arbitrarily pinning the label on somebody to make a real connection.

The article is a smear from Mark Joseph Stern, who Andrew Sullivan (of all people) called, "the gay politburo official at Slate."

So if Tea Party state House candidate Scott Esk [actually] endorsed stoning gay people to death answer me this.

How often have we seen this headline? "'Occupy Wall Street' Protests Turn Violent"

PRO-GOVERNMENT EXTREMISTS are violent, dangerous people.

It continues.. the mob violence including even muggings, knockout game, mob attacks, murders, beatings.. and no wonder look at the wicked hatred coming out of the White House, the Congress, the MSM, academia against those "who have too much" and how things should be more fair. How "they" stole "the people's" property.

Everyday whether it be "immigrant rights" or "civil rights" the pro-government extremists are incited to violence out of being a "victim."

The employees of the MSM like MSNBC or Slate don't have to tell the pro-government extremists to inflict pain and suffering on the "haves" and take back the "stolen" goods. The pro-government extremists cheered on by the White House, the Congress, the MSM, academia to get even gladly do the bidding of the Obama government, the MSM, academia . . . .

In the spirit of compromise perhaps we could agree on chemical castration. They aren’t using their stuff for the intended purpose anyway.....

Hey, we already know the MSM is in the tank for Occupy or anything left wing. That’s a given.

What does that have to do with this? Either they guy said it or he didn’t. It’s binary. Should be easy enough to find out.

I agree. The MSM call everyone and his dog ‘tea party’ that they disagree with and they don’t really know what the tea party is.

Still, SOMEONE is supporting this guy. I’d like to know who they are.

This kind of crap is what gives the Tea Party a reputation as gaggle of wild-eyed bigots. These people HAVE to be vetted properly.

Thought this part of the article was amusing.

Esk’s beliefs aren’t all that far from the other state-level Republicans in the region, who recently attempted to push through the most extreme piece of anti-gay legislation America has ever witnessed.

The reference being to the attempt in KS to pass a law compromising between anti-discrimination and religious freedom.

There are legitimate arguments the KS bill isn't a good one. But I thought the notion that is was "the most extreme piece of anti-gay legislation America has ever witnessed" really funny.

The last law providing the death penalty for sodomy was dropped in the 1870s. At one point or another capital punishment was the law in most states.

Well we don’t even know if he is tea party yet ... I’m trying to find out who is supporting his bid for the legislature. Very few people can self finance.

I think it’s addressed in the article that covers web posters who take themselves too seriously.
