Cruz on Renouncing His Canadian Citizenship: 'American and Only an American'
Breitbart ^ | June 12, 2014 | Staff

Posted on 06/12/2014 6:30:26 AM PDT by Rufus2007

On Wednesday’s “The Kelly File” on the Fox News Channel, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) gave a wide-ranging interview on the topics of the swap with the Taliban for the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Guantanamo Bay detainees, the influx of Central American youths at the U.S.-Mexican border and his decision to renounce his Canadian citizenship, which happened earlier this week.

On that topic, Cruz did not say whether or not it was associated with a potential 2016 presidential run, but instead as something he thought was appropriate as a U.S. Senator.

Just so there's no doubt, renouncing the Canadian citizenship doesn't hurt in this case. Cruz 2016

It surely took him a long time to do it.

He should have done it BEFORE he was running for office in the US.

That's funny, has Ted Cruz announced he is running for US President, because that is the ONLY position that this has any bearing on.

That having been said, Ted Cruz fully meets, and always has, the requirements for running for POTUS.

I salute him.

I think it will be great if he runs - the press and the establishment will try to destroy him. But he is so capable they may not be able.

Even if he doesn’t run, he’ll be a great Senate Majority Leader... fingers are crossed.

I love Cruz, but I was disappointed with his tap dance. Just say you’re clearing the way for a possible presidential run, and be done with it.

Why are you disappointed? Because he won’t say he’s running or not?

What if he doesn’t know?

Even if he does know, why does it matter to you if he’s holding off for his own reasons? Just curious.

In general, I wish the press would refrain from bashing people they disagree with politically when they announce - and then maybe more would go ahead and declare. But to call it tap dancing? pfffft

I saw the interview with Megan Kelly. It was a direct question. He could have answered truthfully and directly, “I’m clearing the path, should I choose to run for president someday.” Instead, he gave a long, tortured answer, and sounded like a typical politician.

It’s the first time I’ve heard him sound like that, so it was disappointing.

If he’s not ready to announce a run for whatever reason, it’s a reasonable answer. Committing now would open him up to the opposition meatgrinder very early on. Not good, strategically. He’s taken steps to address a potential stumblingblock. That says to those paying attention that he’s giving it serious consideration. That’s as far as he’ll go at present. No one else has announced that I’m aware.

It surely took him a long time to do it.

He only learned about it in September, he then put a lawyer on it to get rid of it.

“Ted Cruz announced he is running for US President, because that is the ONLY position that this has any bearing on. “

No it isn’t. I, and I am sure many others, don’t particularly want foreign citizens as their Reps or Senators.

I don’t question his eligibility for US president and his US citizenship, but if someone wants to live in the US, never mind run and hold public office, they should become US citizens and renounce any other allegiance to any other country.
