Last week, George Will wrote a column about how progressive politics have fomented "rape culture" on college campuses. The column was not well received by some, or even, as a great many of the histrionic responses would indicate, well understood. I received the following press release yesterday, headlined: "87,000 Call on The Washington Post to Address Sexism, Fire George Will." A group called UltraViolet was touting the success of an online petition they'd whipped up over the controversy. From the release:

Is this “rape culture” just another imaginary thing that liberals believe, like “global warming”?
Really, I can’t keep up, and I’m tired of living in their fantasy world.
The light of truth is kryptonite to liberals.............
“Im tired of living in their fantasy world.”
So are a growing number of people.
The radical fem nazis will now try to electronically lynch George Will for daring to challenge one of their core beliefs.
Beliefs not realities.
They’ve been trying to find an excuse to get rid of him for years. Any excuse will do.
This is a poor one—the War on Women card is not nearly as strong as the all-purpose Race Card.
I have been visiting many colleges recently with my 17 year old daughter
Have been shocked and dismayed how the “hook-up” culture is actually aided and abetted by University administrators. For example, at most state universities we visited, all dorms are now co-ed (not even by floor, but room-by-room, sharing bathrooms, etc...). My daughter looked at me sadly, like we were reviewing a prison-camp for her - and said “Dad, I don’t want to share a bathroom with guys!”
My thought? Just like Alynskyite players - use the court system. Sexually harassed girls should SUE universities for encouraging “rape culture,” for ignoring conditions leading to rape, and ignoring the concept of “in loco parentis.”
After a couple of hard-fought victories, watch the tide start to turn as the bureaucrats run for cover.
Only ze joos vill be taken avay to ze arbeit Lagers. Only ze joos. Ach zo, ze Sexists alzo. Ve will decide deese thingz.
I’m going to have to remember that for when tax time rolls around again.
Whether I choose to pay my taxes depends on how my government conducts itself.
You have to be careful around the tolerance crowd. They’ll try to ruin you if you disagree or display tolerance to different viewpoints.
They are only a few steps away from making people disappear with out a trace.
Jesse Lee, the media director in question, looks a bit like Michael Moore and appears to have the same non-values.
That said, it’s amazing how tied in the major media are with the White House. I’m not sure we’ve ever had that in this country before. There’s NO dissent permitted.
Weren’t all the names on Journ-0-list revealed years ago?
If you say, “A culture of promiscuity and binge drinking promotes rape, misunderstandings and regrets,” you’re making war on women.
If you say, “Studies written with a political agenda by people who either misuse or don’t understand statistics tend to be full of mathematical mistakes,” you are a hater who should never work again.
I bet Nita has Jesse’s nuts in her purse....
His closing lines:
“And when the common response to disagreeable opinions becomes political organizers unleashing social media lynch mobs, it opens a backdoor to total oppression.”
Oh no. That ain’t no back door. That’s the front door, the main entrance, with a big sign on it stating as much.
Let’s be clear on this: we don’t just wake up one day to “total oppression”; it comes, by design, in bits and pieces over years and years, and we are far, far closer to the kind of “total oppression” of fact and fiction than They would like us to believe we are.
frankly, i have no sympathy for George Will—the Obama voter...
George Will is an intelligent, well informed, conservative leaning journalist...no wonder the Washington Communists want to get rid of him.
Just want to get the terminology down...
Are we talking here about "rape culture" or about "rape rape culture"?
If you think the accused have a right to self-defense, rules of evidence and representation, you’re blaming the victim.
