California's Kevin McCarthy a virtual lock for House majority leader
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 12, 2014 | Lisa Mascaro

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) is all but assured of becoming the next House majority leader after a lawmaker considered to be a strong conservative challenger declined Thursday to run in the internal GOP race.

The affable McCarthy, now the No. 3 Republican in the House, is by no means the top choice among tea party lawmakers who believe the current leadership is tied too closely to the party's establishment wing. But the path for his ascent to the No. 2 spot seemed to clear Thursday as the potential challenger, Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, said he would not seek the post.

We don't need “affable”. That means go along get along. We need combative, ingenious, devious and successful.

I know just the guy. Unfortunately, at least in this case, he's a Senator.

I was just reading that if McCarthy becomes number two then fed funding for the California bullet train will stop. Via the SacBee and Dan Walters.

Pete Sessions wants the job too, and while no rock ribbed conservative stalwart, he is head and shoulders above McCarthy!

I’m sorry .. but I’m not buying your reasoning ..

“... these people (the GOP elite) are not going to be beaten at the ballot box ...”

Well .. Brat did!

But .. they still didn’t get the message of what that election meant .. and are instead installing the next Boehner follower. I had high hopes for McCarthy when he first got elected .. but just like Cantor, they fell to the wiles of Boehner.

Never forget .. Boehner spent many of his years (prior to being Speaker), down the street at a pool hall with all his DEMOCRAT buddies - so he could smoke. As far as I’m concerned, Boehner is a democrat-lite. He talks big .. but his moves prove otherwise.

And .. people should never misunderstand the ANGER of the American people. It wasn’t the Tea Party who got Brat elected .. because the “Patriots” group talked to the Brat people and told them the Patriots were too invested in the Cochran race; however, Jenny gave them instructions as to what to do .. and Brat’s staff DID IT.

So, this was not a “Tea Party win” .. THIS WAS A WIN BY “WE THE PEOPLE” WHO ARE SO TICKED OFF AT OUR GOVT THAT WE’RE TAKING TO THE BALLOT BOX IN DROVES. If you think otherwise, you’re mistaken.

I can support him in this case, but I am still highly suspicious of him on amnesty...

The browndoggle needs to be stopped in its tracks...[yes I did that deliberately].

It’s nothing more than a scheme to rape the taxpayers and enrich politicians and unions.

But the voters were too stupid to realize this...all they saw was “green” transportation.

I hope you are right & that I am indeed mistaken.

Yes a lot of the people are ticked off. Enough of them?

PS: I still have to look at The Chinless One every day and get his mailers telling me how conservative he is. A liar and hypocrite.

I still think the majority of people in the USA are sheep.

If so, there will be a huge revolt from conservatives.

Why should one amnesty pimp replace another.

Why should this position of power be given to an amnesty pimp.

That would be silly.

No, it wouldn't. In fact, if McCarthy gets Minority Leader, I say it's time to work to make him minority leader.

But...but..."Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the former GOP vice presidential nominee who is influential among his conservative peers, said he would back McCarthy". After all, how much more conservative can you get than Paul "Stab them in the back" Ryan? < / sarcasm >

It is going to wind up between McCarthy and Sessions because nobody else will get enough votes.

ANYBODY is better than McCarthy!

McCarthy is not conservative.
He is not from a conservative state.
He is an amnesty pimp.

Where are true conservatives when we need them most?

AWOL, that’s where.

When it comes to amnesty McCarthy is worse than Cantor was.

You got that right. If McCarthy becomes Majority Leader, then it's a great big FU to Conservatives. It also is a signal that the national GOP is perfectly content having Pelosi as Speaker and Reid in charge of the Senate since they will be adopting the exact same position that lost them both houses of Congress back in 2006.

Well, that’s a BIG bummer :(
