MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday that the spectacular seizure of Iraqi cities by advancing jihadist fighters was a clear sign of the "total failure" of the US-led invasion.

"The events in Iraq illustrate the total failure of the adventure involving the United States and Britain," Russian news agencies quoted Lavrov as saying, referring to the 2003 invasion that led to the toppling of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

"The unity of Iraq is at risk."

"We are very worried by what is happening in Iraq. We warned long ago that the adventure undertaken by the Americans and the British would not end well."

"We stand in solidarity with the Iraqi leadership, the Iraqi people who should restore peace and security in their country but actions of our Western partners cause a huge amount of questions."

Fighters from the Sunni Muslim Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have spearheaded a major offensive that began late Monday, overrunning several provinces. On Thursday they were advancing on Baghdad.

The failure wasn’t the invasion, it was the retreat.

The failure was the doomed-to-fail attempt at nation building.

The failure WAS the invasion.

Iraq needed Saddam Hussein to keep it governed and unified, even if it was by brute force.

Seen any muzzie nation where brute force is not required to keep it sane?

How much you want to bet that most of the arms now being used by AQ in Iraq are the weapons Obama gave to the terrorist fighting Assad in Syria? Once the 5 were freed, AQ got emboldened and leaped into action.

There is nothing Obama has touched that hasn't turned into an absolute disaster.

Libya- Both sides are bad, Obama sides with the worst side.

Egypt- Both sides are bad, Obama sides with the worst side.

Syria- Both sides are bad, Obama sides with the worst side.

Ukraine- Both sides are bad, Obama sides with the worst side.

You can always count on Obama to show you who is the least loathsome....they are the ones he is against.

Obama is the worst mistake ever made in this country...

I guess you were not around in the early seventies when King Hussein clamped down on the Palestinians and killed them by the truckload.

Even the Saudis and Kuwaitis expelled the Palestinians.

If things are so good in Morocco, why is it that their citizens are willing to risk their lives crossing the Med to find something better in infidel Europe?
