Jihadists 'bulldoze berm' dividing Iraq from Syria
AFP/Al-Baraka News ^ | Jun 11, 2014 | By AFP

The jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant posted pictures online of militants bulldozing a berm dividing Iraq and Syria, symbolising its goal of uniting its forces in the two countries.

The jihadists could be seen clearing a road through the berm, before trucks drove through as a militant stood nearby holding the group's black flag, in photos shared on websites and Twitter.

Creating a cross-border Islamic state is one of the group's main aims.

The first shot was dated June 10 and carried the title of the photo series, "Smashing the Sykes-Picot border" -- a reference to the agreement between Britain and France that carved up the Middle East after World War I, with the former taking Iraq and the latter Syria.

Another photo showed a militant standing in front of Iraqi army Humvees and trucks, suggesting the shots were taken after the launch of a jihadist offensive this week in which large numbers of military vehicles were captured.

But the authenticity of the photos could not be independently verified.

ISIL has overrun all of Nineveh province, and parts of Kirkuk province to its southeast and Salaheddin to its south.

The offensive reached as far as the outskirts of Samarra, just 110 kilometres (70 miles) north of Baghdad, before clashes between security forces and militants ended without them entering the city.

Thats easy. A new Speaker of the House assigning him the task. Because NO MATTER WHAT voters ensured he will never do it on his own.

I just can’t believe ANY Iraqi soldiers or policemen would surrender. Don’t they know what is going to happen to them? They should fight to the death. Surrender *IS* death.

It requires 2 brass spheres, and Boner does not have them.

National pride is a big thing, and Obama didn't bank on it becoming a factor. IMHO, we are now entering the same phase as during the Carter administration, when we were thoroughly embarrassed by the Iranian hostage crisis. I believe this is the end of the Obama love fest.

well here goes the PR campaign to get America to committ to years and years of Syrian involvement.

As penned in an OpEd piece in the NY Times Wednesday, by former Ambassador Ford: “It’s going to be a long-term effort that will probably go through the administration and into the next.”

Here is post of mine from 2006:

JAMES BAKER: I am no longer asked why we did not remove Saddam ‎12‎/‎3‎/‎2006‎ ‎11‎:‎56‎:‎13‎ ‎PM · 53 of 82 fatez to All

James Baker is right on this, unfortunately Mr. Baker made it worse after inheriting a bad problem himself. The Brits and the French are ultimately responsible for the line drawing of nations back after WWI. Their arrogance took no account of ethnic and religious divisions at all. I deeply dislike Mr. Baker, his attitudes on Israel and the Arab world have deeply hurt our friends and encouraged the despotic governments of the Middle East. The people of the Middle East look at our support of these governments and think we are the devil (thank you Mr. Baker).

Bush the younger understands this and was trying to change it. I thought he would fail because the root problem still remains, Shia and Sunni mutual hatred mixed in with Arab and Kurdish mutual hatred and distrust. This place is worse than the Balkans, to think you could create a functioning pluralistic democracy here is absolutely nuts. The only solution was to partition the country into three parts. All the experts say that cannot be done because of Turkey and Iran. I say do it and support the Kurds, you will have a solid ally for at least 50 years (until the 3rd generation starts to forget the gift of freedom, just like the 3rd generation of South Korea). Iraq will be partitioned, but not on US terms and with a hell of lot more bloodshed. Now it will be on Iranian / Syrian and partly Turkish terms. It will be very ugly.

Perhaps. But he has already succeeded in his goal of fundamentally transforming America. The final push is here with the huge number of aliens he is inundating us with.

Ten years from now, you won’t know your country anymore.

“Ten years from now, you won’t know your country anymore.”

I don’t know my country so much now. I’m hoping that within the next 15 years we’ll start turning things around. Demographics are key, but I believe there will be some dramatic shifts away from traditional Democrat voting blocks - such that it will shock the Democrats.
