Yeah, that was my first thought, too, what does Sergeant Bergdahl need...

The Soldiers in an Infantry unit in a combat zone have zero, ZERO tolerance for a nut job. Their lives depend on each other and they won’t take the chance that a nut job will do something stupid and get them killed. Ask the members of his platoon if he acted crazy. Trying to make a psychological diagnosis from reading SOME of his diary is amateur hour and smacks of political coverup.

I know what he needs, a trip to Leavenworth and an eventual bullet to that head, but hey thats just my opinion
To: 2ndDivisionVet
ensure the ex-captive is safe and out of immediate danger. a cell in Leavenworth ought to fit the bill

The second and third stages begin what can be the lengthy task of processing the emotional and psychological effects of captivity. An old boss of mine who was a POW in the Bataan Death March told me that the reason the reason many of them were able to reintegrate into society was because of their strong Christian faith.
Every evening they got together and prayed and reaffirmed their faith in God.
Nonbelievers were usually the first to breakdown. Bergdahl, if held under extreme circumstances probably would not have survived given his mental state going in.
