Obamas got Biden working on a plan to slow down light.

Get the unions involved. That will do it.

Isn’t this what Iran does? It’s not a design for anything. It’s a toy. How much are we paying this guy to play with models?

If:
1) Life is likely to evolve on all suitable planets, and
2) There are as many suitable planets as there seem to be, and
3) intelligent, technological live evolves on the average after a few billion years, and
4) life is on average as aggressive a humans, and
5) economical travel between starts is possible
then we would already have been conquered. I’m afraid at least on of these is not true. I suspect number 5.

I suspect that due to your 4: life is on average as aggressive a humans that the average lifespan of a technological civilization is less than a thousand years. YMMV.

There’s also the possibility that alien cultures either missed evolutionare/revolutionary technology development steps, or we did and they consider Earth a backwater not worth their time.

There’s a great science fiction story on this subject, I can’t recall the name. A highly evolved alien species had developed a technogy that has permitted them to conquor most of the galaxy. The technology is so fearsome that all it takes is a brief demonstration of it and whole planets kneel down in terror and beg to be subjugated and enslaved.

Finally, the sentient life on a cute blue planet orbiting a averageish yellow star in a fairly remote arm of the galaxy comes to the alien conquorers attention. They send their invasion fleet, which lands in the center of one of the planet’s large continental land masses. The alien warriors march out with their terrible technologically advance weaponry, line up in rows ...

And fire a flintlock musket volley.

Upon which they are promptly and efficiently cut to ribbons by the Kansas National Guard.

The story ends with the alien commander being interrogated shortly afte the “invasion” and swearing that he’ll never divulge his races secrets. The interrogator snorts, informs him that Humans have already reverse engineered the interstellar hyperdrive tech and will have operational ships within 6 months, leaving the alien commander to ponder what will happen when humans hit the stars ...

“I would argue that the scientific principles for faster than light travel and many other great achievements are waiting to be found. And found they will be.”

Really though, how can you argue that? There’s nothing you can offer in support of the contention, it’s just pure speculation.

Makes more sense theoretically than travelling at high speed thru space which would mean one speck of dust would rip a hole thru the ship`s hull and all would die.

I like to think of space as a piece of paper with two dots on each end. The warp ship bends the paper until the two dots meet so no theoretical danger of space dust shredding your ship.

* the 2 dots of course being point A ( you) and point B (destination) .

Well the most realistic idea for a warp drive doesn’t quite do that, that would be more like generating a wormhole.

With the warp drive the ship is actually moving physically towards the destination, slower than light speed, but the bubble around the ship warps space as it travels, making the distance just in front of the ship smaller.

That's assuming there is no "stuff" between the two dots?

Respectfully disagree. In 1850 much of what we have now would have been pure speculation. In support of the contention I offer the research being performed righ now as documented in the article. Will this methodology be employed to take man to the stars? Who knows. Beyond this your argument against seems circular, if you don’t have support for the contention then don’t do any research into the issue. We will never learn anything following that methodology.

God created the forces and limits we know as “physics” and can “violate” them as easy as it is for us to blink our own eyes.

While still looking we have no evidence of civilizations on other planets. Presently we have no evidence to support your position. Doesn’t mean I believe extra terristrial life doesn’t exist, but we haven’t discovered any so far so the possibility exists, though slight, that we are alone. Next question, how do you know aliens haven’t invaded? Perhaps they don’t fight the way we do. As to postulate 5, ever seen a UFO? I have three times in my sixty plus years. Each one I observed exhibited flight characteristics beyond my knowledge of what we currently possess. Are they alien? Unknown. They are simply us identified flying objects. However their flight characteristics are as far as I know beyond our ability. This argues that there is still much to learn about physics.

We’ve been looking for radio signals for some time. We haven’t found any we believe to be from an intelligent civilization. I’d think someone might be able to estimate the minimum distance a civilization could be expected to be from Earth and still not be found.
Additionally, if other technical civilizations exist then there must be an average lifespan (or radio transmition spans) for those civilization. Any technical civilizations would probably start out using the types of radio signals we used and presumably are looking for. I wonder if over time the valuable and scarce radio spectrum might be used in a way that would look different to an outside observer. Perhaps a more efficient use of the spectrum might look like noise to a observer that doesn’t have decryption codes.
