You’re claiming that the Iraqi government could bind the US government?

This isn’t “taking a nap”, this is
“ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH” a railroad term
that usually led to disaster!

Ivtalk about everything you just said in the book...hese main stream book publishers did not like the fact i called out Islam for what it was and defended Christ....the founder of the US....if it wasnzt for him..there would not have been this great nation...this nation was foinded on his principles...the US Constitution is a Christian document....evil hates those facts....ai ws told to rewrite my nook by every major publisher out there to keep the military side but lose the religion....why...it would fully expalin the war...well, it is published and available for anyone to read at an inxpensive price...knowlwdge is what is important...not banking a cash roll...if evil wins...who caes how rich you are...it won,t matter....

Odumbo and his ilk are now contemplating what to do next.

My guess he will draw lines in the sand over a period of time and all those people of ours who have died will have been for nothing.

No, Zero is in ISIS’s side. He is guilty of treason by supporting the terrorists. God help us when gas hits $10/gal.

The Iraqis and the UN nations wanted us out completely and were counting the days until we were gone.

Anyone with a brain knew the country would erupt into civil war as soon as we left.

Obama crowed about his role in securing peace in Iraq. That was a bit premature. The DBM have put their blinders on and are doing their level best to ignore Iraq.

Obama and his national insecurity advisers are no doubt wringing their hands about what to do. Whatever they do, it will be the wrong thing because their view of reality is so misguided.

The original legal basis for the US invasion of Iraq was the UN Mandate, which was not open ended, but was extended several times. Keep in mind that that Iraq would supposedly take just a short time.

But eventually, a new agreement covering the US's legal basis in Iraq had to be put in place, and that was the SOFA. In order for Iraq to agree to the SOFA, the US has to demonstrate that they weren't planning on staying in Iraq indefinitely, and this was to be demonstrated by a series of events. And each of the events would demonstrate further progress towards the US leaving Iraq.

In the Spring of 2006, the Iraq Study Group was convened and would issue their report after the 2006 elections so as not to politicize it.

In Nov 2006, Rumsfeld was replaced by Bob Gates, who served on the Iraq Study Group, and would eventually be replaced by Leon Panetta, who also served on the Iraq Study Group.

In 2007, the Iraqi Security Forces Independent Assessment Commission was convened and it was chaired by Gen. James Jones and it evaluated Iraqi police and military to determine the first timetable of US forces handing off duties to Iraq.

In 2008, the Afghanistan Study Group was convened and it was co-chaired by Gen Jones and retired ambassador Pickering. It served to de-link Iraq and Afghanistan so that Iraq could be ramped down and Afghanistan could be ramped up.

In 2008, Bush hired Gen Jones as a Mid-East Envoy to oversee all this. Bush signed the SOFA agreement in 2008

In 2009, Obama hired Gen Jones as NSA who held that job until Iraq was ramped down and Afghanistan was ramped up.

As for you question as the whether the Iraqi govt can bind the US, I can only say that the US will try to conform to law, but I also realize that the NeoCons control the GOP and they contend that the US is the World hegemon, although events in Iraq and Afghanistan clearly demonstrate that the US is not the world hegemon.

Sorry, but part of me finds it hard to believe that it was that cut and dry. There is always SOMETHING that can be done or used as leverage. Methinks Obama was all too happy to get out of Iraq and thus didn’t push too hard. Can’t say I entirely blame him, but the events of the last year shouldn’t have been ignored.

The fact that Obama is proposing a residual force of about 10,000 troops in Afghanistan implies that he supported a residual force in Iraq.

But the terms of a residual force in Afghanistan is clouded because nothing can be done until the new Afghan president is elected. If the new Afghan prez insists on legal authority over that residual force, we will leave completely.

The legal basis of the US retaining legal authority is found in the ICC UN Treaty, which we haven't ratified but abide by. Under that treaty, we have a right to prosecute the lawbreaker first.

As for your statement, "events of the last year shouldn't have been ignored", they weren't ignored.

Instead, the last event re-defined all the previous events. The fact that the much, much larger Iraqi Shia forces chose not to fight the much, much smaller Sunnis made it a whole new ballgame.
