Florida Gov. Scott signs late term abortion bill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Abortions will be illegal in Florida if a doctor determines that the fetus could survive outside the womb.

Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill Friday that redefines that state's current third trimester abortion ban.

Current law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother's life is at risk. The new law will require woman to have a doctor determine whether a fetus is viable before having an abortion.

The law takes effect July 1. It keeps an exception if a mother's life is at risk or to prevent irreversible physical impairment of a mother's major bodily function.

Sounds like an unenforceable law. What “doctor” is going to make that determination of viability? The abortionist?

Common sense legislation which is at least a start. Even Japan, which has long had abortion-on-demand, draws the line at five months, which is the usually accepted term of survivability outside the womb.

No, I'm not fond of four month abortions either. But this, at least, recognizes a reality which libtards refuse to recognize.

As much as I am prolife.....this feels like a cover your backside and get on the right side of his constituents

It won’t work for me......
He also just signed.....and no doubt is taking heat.....for allowing in state tuition for illegals.

I voted for him last time......but in my phone call to his office, I let it be known that this long time Floridian is hopping mad and he won’t be getting my vote again.

"Surviving outside the womb", how? On its own? With meds? With ventilators? Sounds awfully vague. Is this just a political move?

Current law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother's life is at risk.

Well... let's go back to viability. With intervention, it's not unusal for a 24-weeker to be "viable" these days. So, why the need to kill the baby before delivery? Again... is Scott just playing politics?

Anything that makes it harder to murder babies is a good policy

WHY??????..........I will not vote for the lesser of two evils.
Crist is ridiculous......true
.....but Scott ignored and broke the RULE OF LAW to kowtow to illegals!!!!!

The floodgate of illegals will destroy our nation.....and Scott just made it easier

I will tell you why: you will either have an Obama bootlicking governor Crist or you will have an Obama-fighting governor Scott next year.

Crist will then turn to bootlick Hitlery.
Scott will not.

Politics is the art of the possible, and the only two possible governors are Crist or Scott.

One is markedly better than the other.

By the way, I don’t disagree with your main point regarding the tuition. Nevertheless, there is not a perfect candidate. (see: 2012 Republican candidates)

Well I never thought Scott would sell out to the illegals.....
BUT he did!

That’s a bridge too far for me.....I no longer trust him.

Scott did not sign an executive order that undercut the Florida legislative branch objections to allowing in-state tuition rates to illegals.

Look to huge numbers of temporary Tallahassee transients who were elected to government as RINOs.
The “La Raza” branch joined with the “Compassionate Republicans” AKA commie, racist Democrats.

Sit it out if you want.
Crist will send you a thank you note next year.

It's either Scott or Crist in November.

We don't have a “None of the Above” option on the ballot...yet.

Exactly.
He signed a bill passed by OUR state legislators.
They should never have passed that bill, and they can expect retribution at the ballot box.

Scott signed the bill.
He did not “rule” by executive fiat.

He is going to have to explain why he did not veto it, and/or why he supported it.

Well now we agree.....
But I did not say he ruled by executive fiat.....
However, unless someone was twisting his arm, he still signed by his own free will!
