A senior U.S. defense official Friday said U.S. officials were seeing signs that Iranian fighters were engaged in Iraq.
But it was not immediately clear how many troops were involved.
"This is bad," the senior U.S. defense official told Fox News, adding that "there is not much we can do (militarily). We are way behind the curve."

If they are afraid of ISIS...yes it is bad....for them.
obama didn’t arm ISIS, he armed FSA which fights together with Al Nusra against both ISIS and assad
Doesn’t mean it’s good though. It’s like two cartel bosses fighting each other.
I would be surprised if Iran doesn’t enter the fight in a very big way.
And how could we blame them, fighting against terrorists in support of the legitimate government there.
If you arm one terrorist you arm them all. I don’t make distinctions, I’ll leave that up to the simpletons who do.
OK. I’m actually on the same page in a way, because I am against arming the FSA
Iran is not there to defend the Iraqi government. They’re going for the entire region.
I assume the Iraq oil would be very helpful to fund their evil intentions.
“The official said people in the U.S. Embassy feel threatened, but it’s too “politically sensitive” to evacuate them right now.”
Apparently it was to “politically sensitive” to do anything about Major Nidal Malik Hasan before he killed and wounded so many of our Soldiers in San Antonio. Apparently it was to “politically sensitive” to do anything about Benghazi while they watched our brave Men in a 7 hour fire fight.
Heaven help them.
Yep, you are correct Jim, said to say but looks that way, and he is covering their butts.
RT @bi_politics: Iraqi Kurds prepared for ISIS offensive for a year and expanded their territory by 40% in hours http://read.bi/1onICUP
“We are way behind the curve.”
Well, obviously, the way to catch up is to go golfing and fundraising.
172 golf days for Obama.
Arming and training. This is treason, period.
We have been arming the FSA in Syria. There are about 10 FSA fighters left; ISIS killed them. Now ISIS has the weapons.
We are a cartoon version of the Three Stooges.
Correct. When this is over, there will be the Shiite Arabic Western Department of Iran with capital in Baghdad, and the Northern Sunni Caliphate.
Dealing with stable governments is always better than dealing with terrorists even if those governments are Iran and Syria....or Libya. Governments are predictable, terrorists are not.
Hasan must be a multi-star general by now eh.
Sorry I really should have corrected that, huh? I realized it only after I posted.
They were originally funding them and arming them. But they got caught right around the time Benghazi occurred. Hillary herself had to state publicly, we had no idea they were terrorists. That was when they started only funding and arming FSA because they were not ISIL (which of course was not called ISIL back then). At any rate, the main funding and arms were laundered through Qatar. You know Qatar. Obama tried to claim Qatar had negotiated with the Taliban. Not Obama.
More like a central Sunni Caliphate. The Kurds are not giving up Kirkuk or its oil.
I’ve always thought this was the reason that Ambassador Stevens was killed via Whitehouse inaction. Given Stevens’ lifestyle and personality, I figure he was talking too much, too soon and needed to be silenced.
Either that or it was pay back for numerous attempts on Assad’s life. The Russians knew that ISIL was the real bad guys all along. Now ISIL has taken a lot of the military hardware they took from Iraq, and have driven it back into Syria. So yes, fairly soon Syria will become even more unstable then it is, and that will bring in Russians by the thousands.
This is the beginning of Irans consolidation of Iraq into the Caliphate,
And Obama handed it to them on a silver platter. What’s worse is they do not see the hammer and the anvil. Iran will push ISIS further and further north towards Syria. Syria will start driving them south.
Phase one will be to wipe out ISIS and this is where Russia will help their Syrian ally. Also keep in mind Russia builds Irans nuke plants. Phase two will be a push by Turkey south and they will start attacking the Kurds. With both Syria and Iran on the borders, the hammer will start coming down.
With no one to back the Kurds and siince Obama already said piss off to the Iraqis, and with Russia providing weapons and support, the Kurds will be wiped out. Now include Lebanon in the Caliphate and that means the only thing between a soon to be nuclear Iran and Israel is Jordan.
This won’t end well.
It is really a simple equation.
The al-Qaeda side, apparently under the planning and guidance of Saddam’s former officers, is making an impressive play to regain Sunni control over a heavily Shiite country, so that the 10% of Sunnis will once again rule over the 70% of Shiites. Rather unlikely.
But, if they fail, that will be the end of Sunnis in Iraq. For the most part, they will have to flee to either Jordan or Saudi Arabia. However, the fools have already threatened to overthrow the king of Jordan next, so he and his Bedouins are unlikely to give them a friendly welcome.
For its part, Iran faces the tremendous temptation to stay in Iraq and take over its government. And if they try to do so, and the Iraqis start seriously fighting them, it might be the best outcome, as far as the west is concerned, as it will deplete Iran’s resources and war making ability.
“Iran is not there to defend the Iraqi government. Theyre going for the entire region.”
The mullahs will have their revenge upon Iraq at long last.
File this in the “No S*** Sherlock” file.
Good thing we released their funds and gave them permission to continue their nuke program, that really made them like us, Whoo-Hoooooooo!
Fascinating article. Looks like the Kurds played their cards very well.
What is the difference between the ISIS and the ISIL?
Same organization, just two ways to list the acronym. Both are currently being used by media. Heck, Hillary refers to them as Al Qeada, while some of the media claims they were kicked out of Al Qeada. Hillary is trying to sow confusion as usual to cover her culpability. Does not matter which Syrian Rebel force she is accused of supplying aid too, Al Qeada or ISIL or whatever, the bottom line is any Syrian Rebel force fought against Assad and that weakened him and hampered him in his fight against ISIL/ISIS.
Same organization, just two ways to list the acronym.
That’s what I thought.
I’m sure it is bad for whatever plan Obama had. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It is the Obama plan. Obama is a retainer and protege for the Saudi Royal family. (They paid his way throgh Harvard after getting him admitted to Harvard Law School).
Obama is likley running a CIA based secret OP which will put ISIS in charge of Iraq as Sunnis. The House of Saud requires that. The Shiites are about to have their asses handed to them.
IMHO Obama is already involved in Iraq. Its just that nobody knows it, except for the Saudis and a few others.
As you have said many time before, Candor7, 0bama is and has been working for a Global Caliphate.
When you look at Obamas actions, and ignore all of the misleading press , and his self created lies, you see that Obama is basically working for the Saudis. This is the common theme which invests every one of Obama’s international decisions from pipelines to prunes : A Sunni led world caliphate and so far he has southern Russia, the Balkans, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Thailand, parts of Burma, Indonesia, parts of the Philippines, and the USA moving to support the Sunni cause.
The Iranians know all of this, which is why they are now asking for Obamas help , knowing he will not give it, putting him on the spot, and making Obama look very bad indeed in the eyes of the US public( he who would negiotiate with ANYONE.)In a few months to a year or so, Iraq can be the perfect venue for the Shiites to use their first nuclear weapon.
Israel is the only state which knows all this is happening.
Thank you, appreciate your astute commentary. On another site I saw a photo of an ISIS commander in a tent that had the letters USAID on it. Comment 727 at the link below, a very good Iraq war news thread:
Allegra, are you home, safe?
Is Allegra safe out of Bagdhad ? Last I knew years ago , she was headed back for another tour there.
Yes, she is Stateside now.
Thanks Humble. Good to know.
from your link, little jeremiah:
Doomer Doug is thinking the NWO has unleashed more than it planned on. The NWO is like that English King who brought in the Danes as mercenaries. The Danes decided they liked England and started to take it over. They imposed their version of Islam’s Sharia law called Danelaw.
ISIS still doesn’t quite get the fact that by beheading every POW they can, they are increasing the opposition to them. All the gloating soldiers smiling over headless corpses isn’t going to do anything but fire up the Shia and the remnants of the so called Iraqi military. Doomer Doug correctly called the declaration of Holy War in defense of sacred Shia sites. This guys statement calling for a mass mobilization of EVERY SINGLE SHIA BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND WHATEVER MEANS THE NUMBERS ARE TRULY STAGGERING. The other thing is we in the west are thinking he is doing a Hitler April, 1945 Volksarmy with 90 year old men firing 1898 Mausers. Nope!!!!! The large majority of these newly mobilized “volunteers” are combat veterans from over 20 years of sectarian fighting. They all fought for at least two years in 2005 and 2006. These are the Shia militias the USA used to stomp the Sunni militias and give us our “victory.”
The political impact of this Holy War declaration means the nation state of Iraq no longer exists. The people in charge in Baghdad are not the current government. Baghdad is now under DIRECT IRANIAN MILITARY RULE. Baghdad is now under the authority of religious leaders and not secular.
The Kurds are exploiting the situation very well. I have always thought from day one the FINAL result of our intervention would be the breakup of Iraq into ethnic and religious enclaves. You would have the Kurdish state. You would have the Shia state directly inserted into Iran. You would have a Sunni central state. Iraq was like Yugoslavia in the sense that as soon as either Tito and Saddam were dead the natural ethnic and religious reality would rise from the ashes.
The current events in Iraq represent the TOTAL AND COMPLETE FAILURE of the foreign policy of the USA in the Middle East since World War One. It also represents the collapse of the 1917 General Allenby and the French British Syria accord.
Baghdad will not “fall.” Iran will do whatever it takes to protect Baghdad, the religious sites in the north, and especially the Shia core based on Basra in the south. ISIS is already starting to get outflanked by the Kurdish Peshmerga. ISIS is spread too thin, has enraged its opponents into a total fight or die mode. Sun Tzu says that you NEVER force an enemy army into the position where it must fight to the death.
These numbers about 70,000 ISIS troops pouring into Baghdad are fantasy. ISIS has at most 10 to 15 thousand troops of its own. It, maybe, has another 5 to 10 thousand Sunni and former Bath Party militias. And ISIS has now enraged the Kurdish Peshmerga, which has 250,000, as well as IRAN has already sent in 10,000 elite troops. Further, Turkey is in the mood to link up with the Kurds, as is Assad. If you look at the numbers of potential enemies ISIS has now pushed into the kill ISIS on sight mode, well ISIS isn’t going to do much more than it already has.
The KURDS are going to push west hard in order to secure the oil routes to Turkey and Syria so they can fund their new state. If you look at the maps showing the Kurdish zone, Syria, Northern Iraq etc you see a fully functional political entity that has 250,000 combat veteran troops, nearly unlimited oil revenue and the full support of EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY IN THE REGION TO SQUASH ISIS LIKE A BUG.
ISIS called for the beheading of Jordan’s King today. Again, I mean just how arrogant is ISIS? Do you think maybe Jordan’s king is going to allow anti ISIS forces to use his airbases, military bases, or even just deploy his own troops, which are pretty good if not a huge lot of them.
Gang, ISIS has angered the entire region. I mean the head of Iran actually said he would consider allowing the US to help kill ISIS. This means the firepower, the manpower and the hatred headed towards ISIS is going to be a tsunami.
I believe that we had glimpses of this army being formed in Benghazi. They were to defeat Assad in Syria but cannot do so, and now they are on to their auxilliary target, and I do believe Obama is behind supplying ISIS and giving them intel.
Chris Stevens unwittingly gave his life setting it up.
My money is therefore on ISIS as an historical prediction. The Iranians will fight them to the death, just as they have done in Syria.
We've got to learn to supply the means and stay out of it.
I like how you qualify your ignorance with an insult “simpleton”.
Perhaps your rudeness could have been avoided if you said...
I obviously don’t know what I’m talking about but I know that I’m against arming anyone in the Middle East.
We’ve got to learn to supply the means and stay out of it. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well, we certainly have supplied the means, LOL. So have the Russians.
I can hardly wait to see the reenactment of the Hagyra interupted by the various forces marching to take Mecca.
