The carrier was already deployed. Hormuz transits in and out of the Arabian Gulf are a routine occurrence for any USN ship in the Fifth Fleet AOR. We did 14 such transits during my most recent deployment.
This is not newsworthy whatsoever.

Chuck ordered an aircraft carrier (one) INTO the Persian Gulf, into a narrow waterway shared with some of the world’s largest heaviest commercial shipping vessels, bottled up by a strait controlled by Iran and bordered by al Qaeda terror sanctuaries like Qatar?
and US land-based air and other forces to provide joint force protection are ... where?
