ERBIL, Iraq The American Embassy in Baghdad plans to evacuate a substantial number of its personnel this week in the face of a militant advance that rapidly swept from the north toward the capital, the State Department announced on Sunday.
The embassy, a beige fortress on the banks of the Tigris River within the heavily-secured Green Zone, where Iraqi government buildings are also located, has the largest staff of any United States Embassy.
The exact number of people being evacuated was not clear Sunday. The embassy would remain open, a person familiar with the planning said, and much of its staff of about 5,500 would stay in Baghdad. The American government is expected to call the move a relocation, suggesting that it is a temporary precaution, the person said.

Someone called it here on FR that the battle for Baghdad would begin by Monday.
The largest, most expensive embassy we have in the world. I have heard it is as large as 80 (EIGHTY) football fields!!! Has over 5,000 people stationed there. And Obama’s plan is to turn it over to his muzzie pals as a HQ to run terrorism out of. Nice going pig face.
@SlemaniTimes US State dept to evacuate US Embassy from #Baghdad, 'situation deteriorating rapidly.' #TwitterKurds #Iraq #ISIS #Maliki #KDP #PUK #USA
Why? “What difference does it make?”
Did Tim & Mike blame Bush?
Just like the good ol' days.
Meanwhile, where is our man-child Pres__sent to humanity!
At the border, in a teepee?
No, sand traps and cactus surround him.
Priority #1 - vacate ‘Rome’ while it burns
“The American government is expected to call the move a relocation”
And anyone in the US Media that dares to disagree with this terminology will be branded an OBVIOUS RACIST, that hates the idea of a black man as president, disinvited to Tina Brown’s high-dollar Manhattan Parties, and ostracized on the DC Social Circuit, right?
Evacuate the Times Building. There,s no intelligent lifeforms there.
These are the monsters we are up against.
We had a few victories against them but we’ve frittered them away. The result is that we will have to do it again, the only question is when and where and how unfavorable will be our position when we finally wake up.
A lot of good men died and we’ve thrown away their sacrifice. Being an essentially unserious country with essentially unserious leadership has its own price to pay, and unfortunately the serious pay right along with the unserious.
Obamatollah helping his allies. Again.
His first day in office on January 20th 2009, the very first thing he did before anything else was to try and close Gitmo. Before ANYTHING that his #1 priority: Freeing terrorists. When I heard about that, I said to myself “Did they just put the enemy in the White House?” And here we are 5 years later, 5 Taliban commanders are walking free, Egypt and Libya taken over by the rads thanks to Obama, the rads given free reign to murder a US Ambassador and 3 Americans most likely by weapons provided by Obama, and now the rads are being allowed to take over Iraq and probably Jordan and Kuwait next. We got the enemy in the White house and the Democraps and the RINOs do absolute shet about it. Just think of that, imagine during WW2 a Nazi became POTUS, and not only that, he helped Hitler take over countries. That’s what we got going on for real today.
Why bother? That is all he has been doing since he crawled out of the cesspool and onto the scene.
Probably no adults left in Democrap party but even if there were they would be more afraid of Barry then they are of ISIS.....As long as Barry thinks he can continue to blame this on Bush he will always go the political route instead of doing what is right...Barry Obama all politics all the time.... if you get caught lying just “Say it wasn’t you”....
As far as Iraq goes all this blood is on Barry’s hands... won’t hold my breath waiting for the media to report on that but it is worth repeating.
The Big Skedaddle?
