British Columbia teachers have been at war with the province for more than a decade, and are set to walk out on strike just days before the end of the school year.
Normally I would question the wisdom of a strike that takes place over the summer holidays (whos going to notice?) and is related to unreasonable pay demands. But not in this case. B.C., it is clear, does not view schools as a place in which children are taught the basic tools necessary to navigate life math, science, geography but as petri dishes for social experimentation in which teachers are lab technicians with unwitting children as their mice. You couldnt pay me enough to do this stuff.
On Monday, the Vancouver School Board approved a policy change aimed at accommodating gender identity and sexual orientation. The motive is admirable enough, to prevent students being singled out, bullied or otherwise discriminated against on the basis of gender. The complexity derives from the boards determination to allow not just for actual gender, but perceived gender, i.e. the gender the student identifies with, as opposed to the gender on their birth certificate. Parents who questioned the change argued, quite reasonably, that six-year-olds arent qualified to understand all the intricacies of identity issues. Some of them cant even use the toilet yet, much less decide which washroom to do it in.

those are not words. i will never use them, ever.
What a goofy world. If the consequences of this cr@p weren’t so deadly serious, it would be really funny.
What about “she” and “him”?
We have been so peaceful and prosperous for so long that people have lost touch with what is important and what is too stupid to spend 10 seconds thinking about. Can you imagine this being an issue in wartime when we’re actually being hit on our home ground? Can you picture this during a dust bowl like famine? What about a pandemic? It’s only when things are so good for so long that people lose focus on what’s important and what’s relevant.
Really, there are significant issues. Education is worse now than it was before the industrial revolution. Our society is breaking apart. The most important institution, marriage, has faded to insignificance and 60% of them fail. Our world and our country are being overrun by people from the ninth century but with 21st century weapons. We need to address those. But what makes the news? What upsets people? Yikes.
The Vancouver School Board has earned itself a George Orwell Award.

Why X? That’s sexist and heteronormative. The fifty-third gender demands ye and yer! They want a Y.
This is funny:
“These are sex-neutral third-person terms used to repair the failure of the English language to allow for 21st century gender sensitivities.”
T = F = T on my true-false tests.
sdfa is the correct spelling for all words on any test.
ljdf is the correct date for any history question.
23478 solves all math problems.
Give me my Cum Laude, I’m outta here.
I find myself referring to leftists as “it” a lot. I think they like it ;’)
There’s always the redneck “um.”
“I hit um upside the head with a bat, but I’m sorry.”
“Cat. K-A-T. I’m outta here. I know it’s got 2 T’s.”

Its only when things are so good for so long that people lose focus on whats important and whats relevant.
Your post made me realize that that we have here is a case of irrelevant people pathetically trying to be relevant.
“...people have lost touch with what is important ...”
Echoes my thoughts exactly. When things are easy, when there’s no struggle, people have no grounding. They are free to fantasize, or be manipulated, in their search for meaning.
And what of Spanish class, the glorious language of the Mexican people? Where LA and EL distinguish between feminine and masculine nouns?
the return of Ebonics....
The easiest is still “she-he-it” (pronounced quickly).
