At the annual meeting of The Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ on Saturday, June 14, a resolution was passed to pressure the National Football League and the Washington Redskins to change the teams name and refrain from using any images, mascots, or behaviors that are demeaning to Native American cultures or peoples, according to a report in Indian Country Today. This resolution calls for members to do more than just speak out against the use of the name Redskins. It calls for a complete boycott the football team.

They’re probably soccer fans, anyway.
UCC.
They went all-in boycotting the Bible and its contents about a century ago.
As a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, grew up in northeast Texas, and lived less than a 20 minute bicycle ride to the Texas Stadium, I support and applaud the Washington Redskins! Hell, I am OLD SCHOOL; we used to go to the drive-in movies in the Texas Stadium parking lot (it doubled as a drive-in throughout most of the 70’s)!
I hope the Washington Redskins NEVER change their name, and that they never win another game against the Cowboys!
...as a symbol of how Holy they are.
Former United Church of Christ
Sounds like this is really going to show the Redskins! Because churches usually spend a lot of time and money promoting NFL teams, right? Some rebel will show up at Sunday services wearing a Redskin logo on something; will it result in shunning by the congregation?
They left the reservation (no pun intended) years ago, now they are just another top-heavy non-profit exploiting widows and old people.
God sees them.
I am protesting the Church of Christ using the word “Christ”.
As a Christian I am offended that they would take the name of the Lord in Vain.
There were 507 NFL players arrested in 2010 alone and these guys are worried about a team name that’s been around for decades, with no obvious detrimental consequences? Maybe this “church” should reexamine its priorities.
Don't say that on the World Cup threads. We actually have Freepers that watch Soccer on TV. Freepers.
They want to prove how liberal they are, by adopting the liberal cause of protesting Indian nicknames of sports teams.
How special. How does that tie in with their faith mission????
Corrupt Doctrine ==> Corrupt Church
—— It calls for a complete boycott the football team.——
Wow...imagine how many souls that will save from hell...
Even Church Leadership Groups can be childish...
We have a United Church of Christ across the street. Maybe I will attend for the first time with a Redskin’s tea shirt.
Well Church you would not seem to be hypocrites if you did not ordain an open homosexual as a minister. As a religious organization you openly mock God then have the nerve to call out the Washington Redskins on their moral obligations!
