PHOENIX A deadly burglary at an Arizona church is raising questions about the wisdom of clergy possessing weapons, no matter how dangerous their mission.

Let us disarm the Christians it says. Wonder why?
Somebody needs to train them to know that when you pull out a gun, you immediately pull the trigger.
The priest had no business owning a pistol that he did not know how to use. If the bad guy gets your weapon - it’s your fault.
What nonsense to question whether “clergy” should be armed. Half the congregation at my church are armed.
Or not.

Same here. It would be a suicide mission for someone to invade our church with ANY weapons
The priest who owned the gun was so severely beaten by the attacker that when he retrieved the pistol he was physically unable to fire it. In the photos of the priest his hands are both extensively bandaged and splinted.
He was so severely beaten with a tire iron that his fingers were virtually destroyed as he tried to prevent the assailant from bashing his head in. He was only partially successful in protecting his head - he was admitted to hospital in critical condition - and his hands were so damaged that he could not physically pull the trigger.
There are no guarantees in trying to contend with subhuman vermin.
Why don't you rethink your comment in light of the facts and quit blaming the victim.
Foremost part of gun control is retention of ones gun.
Source, please.
Based on the information in the OP, my conclusion was correct.
Skeeter Skelton, one of my favorite writers said their Methodist Preacher kept a loaded Colt .45 auto in the pulpit.
That’s so terrible! It’s quite true, having a gun is not a guarantee at all. Once the attack has started, it’s often too late. But I’d rather go down trying than not have a weapon at all.
Yes, haven’t they ever heard of the “church militant”?
The kindest thing I can say, and the safest, is I really hate the Associated Press and its staff writers.
It's also the safest.
People of faith don’t deserve 2nd amendment rights? Seriously AP?
Yep. My farther taught me to shoot in the backyard when I was 18 because I was going to travel 20 miles to college. I am a woman but the same applies to men and priests. He told me if I ever pulled my gun it was because I had already mad the decision I was going to shoot someone. Never, never pull it and pause cause the bad guy would take the gun away from me. I have never forgot his instructions.
ABC 15 Arizona and AZ Central. It’s all there.
i’m always armed at church.
As am I.
