Ex-IRS official Lois Lerners crashed hard drive has been recycled, making it likely the lost emails of the lightening rod in the tea party targeting controversy will never be found, according to multiple sources.
Weve been informed that the hard drive has been thrown away, said Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, in a brief hallway interview.
Two additional sources told POLITICO the same late on Wednesday, citing IRS officials.

It may just be standard government procedure, but the revelation is significant because some lawmakers and observers thought there was a way that tech experts could revive Lerners emails after they were washed away in a computer crash in the summer of 2011. Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), for example, subpoenaed her damaged hard drive earlier this week, when he asked for all hard drives, external drives, thumb drives, and computers and all electronic communication devices the IRS issued to Lois G. Lerner.
IT experts have weighed in and said yes we can get those emails, said Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.) earlier Wednesday.
The latest news suggests such professionals may never get the chance to try again and the IRS has said even its criminal investigators who specialize in rebuilding hard drives to recover hidden information from criminals were unable to restore the data back in 2011. But this is only likely to further enrage Republicans, who are fuming over the matter and suspect Washington officials drove the selective scrutiny.

That is a great idea.. But not ISSA.. Like FreedomWorx or TeaParty Express.
In a sane America whoever threw them away would be prosecuted.
It’s amazing how these people are getting away with so much stuff. The only possible explanation is we’ve elected too many people with too many skeletons in their closets and the NSA owns them. What’s scary is those who run the NSA are helping Obama. That means America cannot be saved. Hope I’m wrong.
I don't know the particulars, I just wanted to point out that a single hard drive doesn't come near covering all the places those emails reside. You could probably multiply the complexity of the graphic by a thousand and still not cover the extent of it's actual layout.
Their lie is beyond insulting.
The NSA works for “THEM”.
Hatch said, and I quote, “This is STARTING to look suspicious.” I swear.
Destruction of evidence
BS.
I didn’t know that Symantec had that contract TChad. Former Clinton Counterespionage, and then, when he wasn’t retained, Cyberespionage Advisor, worked for Symantec for a while. His name escapes me, but I heard him talk at Symantec, and found him slick, but not knowledgeable. He is one of those political spooks, more politics than content.
No one could selectively delete email from an Exchange database without leaving log entries in half a dozen places. Further, if POP/SMTP servers were used, IP addresses of senders and receivers are separately recorded, less the messages themselves. Any real investigation would entail retrieving and identifying all Lerner’s mail recipients and subpoenaing the emails. Issa seems to have run cover for Obama on many occasions, not lease of which was Fast & Furious. Someone suggested that Issa, whose parents are Lebanese, may have dibs as ambassador to the Caliphate.
As you point out, and I can confirm, there are no Exchange databases without at least one shadow set. Two shadow sets is the norm, and three, because it is the IRS, are likely. Even the shoestring operation behind Free Republic has a backup, as we have learned when there were hardware failures. No government employee should have messages stored locally. Lois could leave her laptop in her car, or a janitor could pick it up, or one of John Brennan’s database experts could access her desktop system. Of course Brennan’s people had the contract to support the State Department’s database, which is how they cauterized just Obama’s State Department records. That was a single collection of records since Obama was a junior senator. Lerner’s contacts must have consisted of tens of thousands of records, and impossible to remove without disrupting records cross-referenced to thousands of other IRS employees. Every single operation on the database is logged to allow the change to be reversed if necessary. This, like most other topics involving destruction of our republic, is full of easily detected lies. But since the executive is corrupted, including the Justice Department and Military, nothing will come of it.
The many many logs generated when a server is accessed, and further records when someone authorized to access a database does so, and such access requires connections to two and probably three geographically separate systems make the expunging of just the tracks left by one user, Lois Lerner, next to impossible. Her mail sent to internal recipients would also be on her assigned Exchange server, but many of her messages were likely sent to NGOs or offices with local Exchange servers. Silence was almost certainly commanded of all her correspondents, probably by Eric Holder. No one will talk, and probably with good reason.
Like many have said here...think server backups.
Like you said. Apparently the entire IRS enterprise email system was run off of her laptop as a server. If she's logged on, then IRS emails are delivered. When she's logged off, no IRS emails get sent or received. Right.
What would have been on her laptop are her 'secret' gmail or yahoo accounts. I think Issa needs to subpoena all the usual anonymous email providers and see what she was sending and receiving on her official government laptop.
Too bad the dinosaurs (shall we call them 'rinosaurs'?) are in charge of investigating their own extinction.
"Rinosaurs". I like that. All FReepers have my permission to propagate that term. You saw it here first, folks! (If Michelle Malkin sees this it will go viral. FReepmail me Michelle!)
Kit
Tech expert, IT guru, Rachael Bade of Politico, speaks.
But, I dont buy it.
They must go to the white hut.
No one will talk, and probably with good reason.
It is hard to hold a conspiracy together. Issa should let it be known that whistleblowers will be given immunity.
Lawlessness abounds. I truly believe this nation has been judged and we are living the punishment. The punishment being the corrupt people who preside over us, for one. If one believes in and knows The Creator God then one also knows that He wouldn’t let a people continue to promote/practice homosexuality, adultery, pornography, abortion, greed etc. Once it gets to a certain level would there not be some intervention?
Maybe the recycler still has them, or he knows who has them.
“Well, we had all the information stored on floppies that were then used as drink coasters that got wet and didn’t work.” And the republicans nod their heads in unison.
But the good news is that all those bits and bytes have been recycled to help prevent global warming.
You are forgetting one thing. The Hildebeast is waiting to take over after the Obungler. I hope we are not just jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. I think she might be worse than the Obungler.
The EXEMPT, treasonous, Congress
(working for al Qaeda and themselves, SSDD)
ARE CORRUPT beyond redemption ... and DO NOT CARE.
