Bobby Jindal issues orders to sever Common Core ties [but some say he can't do that]

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal issued executive orders Wednesday to withdraw the state from the Common Core standards and federally subsidized standardized tests, defying his state legislature, his superintendent of education and the business community — but endearing himself to tea party activists across the country who could be influential in early primary states if he chooses to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

“We want out of Common Core,” Jindal said at a press conference. “We’re very alarmed about choice and local control of curriculum being taken away from our parents and educators. It is never too late to make the right decision.”

But Jindal’s move immediately got tangled up in state politics — and the nitty-gritty of state procurement law.

Within an hour of Jindal’s announcement, state Superintendent John White was telling reporters that the governor had no authority to back out of the Common Core or scrap the exam the state was planning to use, which was developed by a federally subsidized consortium known as PARCC. “The state will continue to implement the Common Core and continue to implement the PARCC tests — the governor’s comments notwithstanding,” White said.

A few hours after that, the state commissioner of administration held her own news conference to say that White had exceeded his authority. Not only that: She was suspending the contract that the state education department had planned to use to purchase and administer PARCC test questions. The commissioner, Kristy Nichols — a former deputy chief of staff to Jindal — said the way White had structured the testing deal may have violated the state’s contracting laws.

The roller coaster left Common Core foes not sure whether to celebrate or start drawing up new battle plans to help the governor get his way.

This and other states withdrawing from Common Core are worth watching. I believe a state can only get out by seceding and that the only other way is to get rid of the Dept of Education. I would love o be proved wrong.

My (TN-4) congressman Scott Desjarlais sent out an urgent EMail this week..

Did he want to inform us that he was out to Iraq, NSA the IRS or the illegal aliens on the border ???

No his idea of a dire national security problem was Common Core...

Not that its not important..

But with the illegal aliens swarming over our borders and being flown north to other states will there be any room in the classrooms for my grandchildren to learn any type of system of education ???

The problem we face now is that the war has at least a dozen front line battles. The ‘Rats are using Cloward-Piven not only within each battle, but at the number of battles as well. Fight one battle, and the other 11 and more rage even hotter.

Common Core, and PARCC et-al, is one of those front line battles.

More on this from NOLA.com:

What Jindal did not mention is that state lawmakers recently considered adopting new educational standards and assessments for Louisiana several times and choose to keep Common Core and its related testing instead.

“I think the Legislature made their position known on Common Core and [the standardized test],” said state House Speaker Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles. “I’m disappointed in the governor’s decision.”

Common Core lays out what students are supposed to learn each year in mathematics and English. Louisiana and most other states adopted the standards a few years ago, but a few states are backing off amid a recent conservative backlash. Jindal, once a supporter of Common Core, also turned on the educational benchmarks in recent months.

During the course of the state’s lawmaking session that ended just two weeks ago, legislators turned down a few opportunities to ditch Common Core and develop Louisiana’s own state standards.

In fact, Louisiana’s House of Representatives and Senate actually voted overwhelmingly for a bill that affirmed the state’s use of Common Core and a related national test. But Jindal vetoed the legislation last week.

Only libtards like NY’s Cuomo will hold on to Commie Core until what I hope will be the bitter end. It is total crap, merely an alignment tool to indoctrinate kids into socialism.

With all due respect Nana, most educated people in this country can chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. Putting one above the other as in a totem pole to be whacked off one at a time is not the way to ATTACK this overloading the system as C210N described. It is all classic Cloward-Piven designed to crash the system so when any group no matter how small goes beyond the law, Obama will institute one of his already signed EO’s to bring the hammer down and declare Martial Law.

He will cancel all future elections except for his own as did Hugo Chavez. All of these are designed to create the crisis so they can become dictators for life.

He ain’t giving up that friggin airplane!

So what do we do? Keep the powder dry and be vigilantly on the lookout to quell any such “crisis” moments because as evidenced by the latest CNN poll, his support is dropping like a rock and that poll was taken before the ISIS run on Iraq.

What is the best way to fight it? Shining the light of truth on them all with whomever you associate with. I have been telling those within my circles of business and pleasure only to have received the rolling eyes. Those same people are now seeking me out with loads of questions because they remember me warning them. Now we can become the leaders.

But the most insidious thing about Common Core is that our nation’s children will only become indoctrinated and not educated and we then lose an entire generation which will be necessary to restore our Republic. That is why it and all the others are the many battles we need to be engaged in all at the same time.

Just do it.

Simply refuse to comply. Claim lost documents, etc.

Delay, delay.

Very simply, do not comply.

“other states are dropping common core...so he can too”

Of course, but in those states the legislatures backed up the decision. In this case, the legislature reaffirmed their commitment to Common Core just weeks ago, and it sounds like they will fight Jindal on this. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

When they tell you they got rid of the PreK-adult data trove then we are in business. That’s the question for Mr. Jindal.

state Superintendent John White was telling reporters that the governor had no authority to back out of the Common Core...

Sounds to me like John White doesn't understand the concept of the chain of command.
