A federal appeals court has struck down a Los Angeles law prohibiting people from living in their vehicles, a ruling that could affect similar laws in numerous cities.

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that the ban, in place since 1983, is unconstitutionally vague and leads to discriminatory enforcement against the homeless.

Since GM cars don't work, we should call them the perfect Obama home.

Interesting.

A very old friend of my daughter has an ex-rock band leader, ex-husband, current drug user and current drunk living in his car at a local Walmart.

Seems like a tough life.

He has two sources of income: Residuals from the good old days in the band and the occasional gal who is willing to put up with him for a few days in order to talk about those good old days.

There are decrepit motorhomes parked all around the Venice area that no doubt are being used as homes.

This was happening in my part of town... the business owners were complaining about the trash and human fecal matter. The city finally put up signs that limited parking for two hours and they all left.

Government Motors builds Obama Homes !!!

But only the doors on the left will open and don't expect the key to work properly.

Its about time! Its right there in the Constitution - somewhere.
The right of the people to live in cars shall not be abridged.

I got a ticket because of these desperate folks.

I parked in a place where it was normally OK to park past 10pm. When I got to my car at 10:30, I saw a ticket on the window. Then looked at the parking sign, and found out that it was new and that there was no parking allowed after 10pm.

No doubt the times were changed to keep people moving along.

As Kyle or Stan would say: Bastards!

Actually it IS in the Constitution because it is NOT in the Constitution.

But don't let that keep you up at night - nobody else does.

I think that that was deduced from the line in the Constitution about sleeping with your horse...

If people want to take that risk, I’m not opposed to it.

Seems like a tough life.

I did it during college for a while. It's not so bad if you find a safe place to sleep. Buying coffee will get you the use of a bathroom.

We have property now. Occasionally people park at a turnout I made along the County road. Frankly, as long as they don't trash the place and if they $hit bury it, I'm OK with it.

Been there, done that. None of us is so far above that lifestyle that we can't find a way to help the poor. It's what we did before there was welfare and keeps them from using more government services. I'm into employing as few bureaucrats as possible these days.

I can't argue with that sentiment. You are right.

In the case I referenced the subject leader of the band had a bright future ahead of him and great wife. He preferred booze and drugs and, very likely, a shortened lifespan. Hard for me to feel sorry for him.

The downside is that many, if not most, personal auto policies will exclude coverage for vehicles used as a residence, so by residing in your vehicle, you effectively void your policy.
