Ron Paul to make acting debut in 'Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt?'

Three time presidential candidate joins Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity in third installment of trilogy based on Ayn Rand's 1957 novel.

Liberal Hollywood will have to make room for a new star — right-wing politician Ron Paul.

The three-time presidential candidate will make his acting debut in "Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt?," the third installment of the films based on Ayn Rand's novel.

"Atlas Shrugged is a fantastic book, but it's much more than a story — it's a philosophy," Paul told the Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news.

"It's influenced millions of people already and because of its greatness it's going to continue to influence a lot of people." The "Atlas Shrugged" movies, like the 1957 novel on which they are based, have been popular with conservative audiences. Not a surprise, since the plot involves the crash of the U.S. economy under the weight of government interference.

" Approaching collapse, the government continues to exert its brutal force against the nation's most productive," the film's synopsis reads. "While crime and fear take over the countryside, the last remaining entrepreneurs, who fuel the deteriorating economy, continue to vanish mysteriously and leave behind a wake of despair. Only one man has the answer. Some will stop at nothing to control him. Others will stop at nothing to save him.

That man is not Paul's character, who is a TV presenter in the upcoming film.

Joining the 78-year-old Texan in the movie are fellow conservative personalities Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Paul actually has another film credit on his resume. But his appearance in the 2009 comedy "Bruno" came without his consent when he was tricked into a mock interview with Sacha Baron Cohen. Directed by James Manera and starring "Northern Exposure's" Rob Morrow, "Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt?" is due out on Sept. 12.

right-wing politician Ron Paul.

I don't think I'd call him that.

I saw the movie. It left with the question, Who Is John Galt? So the soliloquy will be Ron Paul? Don't see the movie, it was nothing like the book.

Slaves in China and elsewhere are the “the nation’s most productive.” Maybe they’ll build a homestead in the “Gulch” for the administrators, inventors and artists.

I’m just saying that engineers would best leave the others and adhere to technicians and laborers.

A one darn good book Unfortunately, the copy misplaced so it’s been years since it has been revisited. First several films seen but the oil fields burning was the last segment seen. Guess it time to study our DVD instructions and purchase the set.

What the hell does that have to do with "Atlas Shrugged"?

I’m re-reading it now. I’m very interested in the third movie. I’ll definitely go find it in a theater.

The first two movies do not, of course, do justice to the book. I didn’t expect them to. So much has to be left out and glossed over just to fit it into a couple of hours apiece... There’s just no way to do it, short of making it a twenty-episode series. All that said I did enjoy the first two movies. I wish they hadn’t changed the cast. I really liked the combo of Grant Bowler and Taylor Schilling. It’s confusing, and I don’t see how the new actors were any better. But... Oh well. What I like about the movies— I look at them as a set of illustrations to go with the book. No, you can’t follow a story just by the illustrations but they make reading the book more interesting.
